Gosford House is not always open to the public. They open their doors just a few days/weeks of the year. We were lucky enough to get tickets for a grand tour and it was amazing. We had a fantastic guide for the tour. The gardens are beautiful and as a PGA Pro I could see how you could fit a few holes in here and there. Highly recommended.
Absolutely stunning stately home in East Lothian. We came across it by chance, having noticed a sign as we drove past for an open day. We were lucky enough to be able to go on a house tour and the guide was extremely knowledgeable and approachable, encouraging us to ask questions. The interior of the house is breathtaking, especially the marble hall. It houses an extensive collection of art. It's reasonably priced to visit. Highly recommend.
Worth visiting to see the Marble Hall and to walk the beautiful grounds. The house tour lasts 90min and is mainly in the late Victorian extension; the original Robert Adam part is only a minor part of the tour.
An amazing visit to Gosforth estate sadly the house was still closed to visitors due to covid19 but we enjoyed our 2 hrs walk through the estate highly recommended as bicycles are not allowed. Nice one.....
Fantastic woodlands walks
Could not go into the house, which is open only on certain dates, as they only accept cash or cheques.. Luckily was a lovely sunny day so able to take a walk round the lake..
We visited Gosforth House on Wednesday 10th August for the first time. We had great weather to see the grounds and the wonderful house at their very best. We were on the 11.45am tour. Our guide was very knowledgable with interesting stories and anecdotes. Impressive in such a young person. But unfortunately he seemed in such a rush, speaking so quickly and jumping from one thing to another, not waiting until everyone was in the room so it was impossible to hear everything, always moving on at a pace. He did not encourage questions but those who managed were answered helpfully though quickly! There was so much to see and enjoy but we barely skimmed the surface which was frustrating. There was no time to look at anything properly. We finished 15 mins early, which was not surprising. Time and patience was what was needed. We enjoyed the tour but not being herded along. It would have been better to have had 2 hours. And someone who did not view us a job to be done. And maybe even an inconvenience. The grounds were magnificent and we enjoyed walking through them very much. We would love to come back and learn some more. It would be great if more open days were made available throughout the year. Getting the duration, pace, ambience and availability of the tours correct would lift the rating to 5 star plus. Whilst it is very commendable to have young people 'manning the fort' so to speak, a balance with those more experienced would undoubtably smooth out the wrinkles. For the house interiors and grounds are stunning.
Such a beautiful house, stunning features, the marble hall....exquisite!!!
We enjoyed a fantastic tour of this very impressive house in August 2022. Our tour guide, Tamara, was extremely well versed in all aspects of the house and its history. She answered all questions in a patient and enthusiastic manner and managed our diverse group with confidence. A truly fascinating day out.
Gosford house is a beautiful place. The building is stunning to look at and the inside does not disappoint. We took the 1.5 hour tour and our guide was so knowledgeable about the paintings, furniture and artifacts on display. Some of the things may not appeal to everyone but that is the nature of a tour. One suggestion I would like to make is that the owners could do a separate tour of paintings only not all obviously because there are too many but just the cream of the crop. The grounds look wonderful and we'll return to explore them at a later date.
