The location is excellent--right in the thick of Cambridge Uni and near main roads--and the rooms were clean. The breakfast food was stellar I recommend the avocado poached eggs dish and the ambience was classy. The staff members were pretty pleasant overall, too.nnBut, my A/C was out for 2 of my 3 days and it was unseasonably warm in England!, the coffee machine was broken 2 of the 3 days, and the neighbors were super loud woke me up at 1 and 2 AM.nnThis, with the fact that they wouldn't drive me to the train station and the room prices are quite steep means only 3 stars.
We had a wonderful stay at the Gonville. The Superior Deluxe room was amazing with so much space and it makes you feel special and pampered. There is even a pillow menu to ensure you have the right pillow for you. To cooked breakfasts are amazing, with a great selection on the breakfast buffet to go with it. The Bentley tour was a fascinating and enjoyable experience. The food in the restaurant is good, but you can get better for a similar price round the corner at The Oak Bistro if you can get a table there.
I was here for a corporate event in the teepee. Food wasn't the best and service was only present when you went looking for it. The outdoor area is very nice and the hut bar an excellent touch.nLocation is opposite a very large park and is idyllic. Parking is limited and on a first come first served basis. Getting out the car park is difficult at busy times so make sure to be brave otherwise you will have a wait on your hands.
We had a twin room for two friends sharing, although the hotel was lovely and great location the bathroom had a frosted slide door with no privacy. So wouldn't recommend based on that.nThey also charge around 23 pounds for parking which they didn't make clear on arrival.nOther rooms are available but for the price was expecting a little bit more.
The staff were absolutely lovely and accommodating. In particular Reuben at Reception was informative, polite, and helpful throughout check-in and check-out. It was a pleasant surprise to see our bed decorated and a card and chocolates to celebrate our engagement! The only slight feedback was that there were no bedside 3-pin charger plugs. Thank you to the Gonville for making our Cambridge stay a great one.
