We were looking for somewhere to stay fairly late in the evening and found this place. The guy at the bar was so helpful in directing us to book the rooms online. The rooms themselves were certainly not cheap but they did feel comfortable and had nice bathrooms. The carpet in my room had signs of wear and tear but isn't as bad as some places I've stayed at. The bar and food service was impeccable. The same guy who helped us book our rooms also served our food. The breakfast was also impressive with a buffet style continental breakfast and a full cooked English. Overall I would stay here again and I am willing to overlook the slightly soiled carpet in the bedroom. Regarding the bedroom I had a room facing the road. At 11pm when I went to bed there was hardly any traffic so noise isn't an issue. Traffic noise only started to appear at 7am and may be later at weekends. If you are arriving here by car there is a car park on the other side of the main road which is free to use between 6pm and 9am so you can leave the car there overnight without charge.
Lovely pub in the centre of Settle with plenty of gorgeous walks from the door. We booked late and I suspect that is why we ended up with a small, slightly tired room. Dinner was great, lovely veggie/ vegan main courses. Friendly waiter. The manager was a bit grumpy and I'd say it's "dogs tolerated", rather than "dog friendly". We had a good time overall but things could be a bit more polished and friendlier.
Lovely cozy pub, food was nice but service was average. We had to ask for more drinks after waiting about 15 minutes for a member of staff , then again for the dessert menu. When asked for the bill I paid in cash and was asked if I wanted my change ???? I have never left a pub or restaurant without leaving a tip after a nice meal but I’ve never been asked if I wanted change either.Just thought it was a bit rude. A couple of the staff were really nice and friendly it’s a shame that one member of staff let the others down.
Walking in from a wet walk in the Dales, the friendly staff quickly get the keys to our room. The room was clean, tidy and well-equipped. We ate in the Lion's Den because we had our dog with us. The food was good and the staff was friendly. A local folk band played in the bar, with the famous Mike Harding amongst them. The atmosphere was great. The next morning, we had a delicious cooked breakfast. The Golden Lion is a great place to stay in the Yorkshire Dales. There are plenty of walks nearby too. Rooms: Comfortable, clean, well-equipped Nearby activities: Walking routes, Settle to Carlisle Railway Walkability: In the town centre close to shops and cafés. Lots of walking routes within a ten minutes walk
Absolutely cracking pub. Lovely drinks on offer and amazing staff. We didn't eat or stay the night but we absolutely will do in the future based on what we've seen and I'll update my review in future to reflect that.Service: 5/5
In for a meal only. It was 'out of season' really so was nice and quiet. Cosy and well presented with attentive service. We weren't crowded in which is a big plus. Food was average value. Not very expensive but not great in the scheme of things. I don't think you'd be disappointed with choice, cost or flavour but I'm not sure one could say it was much more than is available at any other nearby location. Don't know what the rooms were like but it appeared to be a clean, cosy and pleasant location in a beautiful town.
Really great place to have a drink on a Friday afternoon. Nice staff, beer is kept well and a lovely atmosphere.Service: 5/5
We’ve never stayed but took my girlfriend on our first date !! N we’ve been going ever since foods amazing very helpful staff nothings to much trouble !!! Fantastic spot put it on ur bucket listService: 5/5
Sunday lunch was really good and whilst we struggled to have room for dessert the mini desert with tea or coffee was a real winner. Great location and recommend food
Cosy atmosphere, outstanding food. Service and food were consistently good each time we've visited. Friendly and helpful staff.
