Interesting town museum which has objects and documents of the town and its industries. It’s larger than it looks and you can spend some time rambling around the rooms. The building was the priest’s house and then a pub. There’s a small shop and a garden with good views over the valley
We came to see the Hill and the views, But so glad we visited this fantastic museum too, So much to see, Lots about the local history, Very friendly and welcoming staff, Definitely worth a visit.
Stunning views over Dorset. Iconic street, especially if you remember the Hovis advert from the seventies directed by Ridley Scott.
I cannot say enough about this little gem of a museum in the heart of Shaftesbury! From the moment you open the door you're greeted with a warm welcome by the volunteers who man the place. The building itself is perched on a hill with stunning views overlooking Shaftesbury. Inside are artefacts and comprehensive information from AD300 to the present day! Comprised of two floors, there is a lift and ramps throughout that make it extremely accessible. If you're in the area give yourself a treat and go to Gold Hill Museum located literally at the top of the 'Hovis Advert' hill.
I really enjoyed this museum. Shaftesbury is a very interesting little town and this museum explains it all very well.
