I've visited most of the cathedrals in Great Britain and I think this is the best. Big statement, I know, since personal taste is so important in such matters, but Gloucester has a lot to recommend it. The blend of architectural styles, the fascinating history information discreetly provided on modern interactive screens, the intimate atmosphere, the lack of pressure to pay an entry fee, the non-pushy guides who leave you to your own devices - it's all very well judged. Yet it has all the facilities you would expect including a restaurant which serves (in my opinion) much better food than I have come to expect in these settings.

Wonderful visit yesterday, and we were lucky enough to hear an organ rehearsal, the choir rehearsing and the bell ringers practicing which were all incredible. The building is magnificent and its history is fascinating; the stained glass - from several different eras right up to the 1990s; the interpretation and welcomers really helpful. Try out the whispering gallery, and admire the views form the tower. We stayed for over 2 hours and then enjoyed lunch in the very good and reasonably priced cafe.

What a beautiful cathedral and following its renovations and improvements that are currently ongoing it will be even more splendid, or returned to its original splendour (depending on your point of view). Its definitely worth a visit as you can admire the structure and architecture of this ancient building which originated in 678 or 679 with the foundation of an abbey dedicated to Saint Peter. The foundations of the current present church being laid in 1072-1104. Its a stunning building and worth a visit regardless of whether you are interested in the architecture, the magnificence of the glass windows, a history lover or just looking in general. The sense of awe coupled with a wow factor are there and will not disappoint.

Our absolute favourite place in Gloucester! Highly recommend a trip to visit. Plenty to see and wander around. The whispering gallery upstairs is super cool too!

Beautiful cathedral although quite a lot of building work currently, to make disabled access into and around the inside. There is also work to create a lovely seating area in the College Green. The windows and stonework are wonderful. Bells ringing before choral even song were stupendous
