Love the Tor! It’s a steep but short walk 25-35 minutes up , lots of places to rest on the way up, the views are stunning, dogs welcome, there are normally some sheep doing sheep things, so bear that in mind if you take your pooch.
Great walk which ends with very impressive views of the surrounding countryside. The tower at the top is picturesque and a wide area around provides ample room for picnicking. Yhere is a dial on top which points out areas, directions and distances to local points of interest showing a relief to help orientate you. The walk is steep and takes about 30 mins for experienced walkers from Glastonbury. The only downside is parking is limited and expensive in the town.
If you’re interested in an panoramic incredible view and a great workout- you’ve found the right trek! It wasn’t too bad of a walk once you made it to the base of the tor only took 15 mins to get to the top. But most start out somewhere in the city- so it took about 30-45 mins to get to the base. Once we got to the top- we loved the sunset we caught! The view from the top is worth the trek!!!! Take a bottle of water and a snack and you’re all set!
Fairly hard going up the Tor from the South Gate so we walked along the footpath through the wood and climbed from the North. Still hard going! Worth it when you make it to the top as it gives up some good views. On the downside why do people sit at the base instead of moving out of the way so others can take pictures.
We loved walking up the Tor, stunning views all around. Worth the steep walk up, take a picnic and relax with incredible views
Amazing location, visit at least once a year. This year, walked up in an evening to watch the sunset, well worth it.
What’s an incredible place to visit! I was so impressed by the atmosphere and the air blowing. When I got there, it was raining though but it was clear the next day. I used train from Paddington station to Bristol, then caught bus to Glastonbury. It is a new, in UK you can ride bus £2 to everywhere. On the next day, I walked to the Glastonbury Tor just before the sunrise. Saw sunrise was just magnificent and spectacular. Quiet and super natural atmosphere. Had meditation myself was unforgettable experience.
Amazing views from the top of the Tor and the climb up is reasonably steep from one side, but there are concrete steps and path, making it an easy climb. We visited on a Sunday and there was a number of free parking bays on the road.
Incredible how an edifice remained standing throughout centuries, impervious to weather and the changing of kingdoms. No wonder it appeals to my mystical cord. Left the motorcycle in town and climbed the hill up to the tor - takes roughly 35 to 40’ but it’s worth the effort. The road takes you up and up through quiet fields, the silence broken by sheep bleating and birds chirping. The view from the tor is vast and very green after all, this is England, and is good to just sit, relax and maybe embark in some meditation. A good day trip, a nice couple of hours spent walking to a somewhat ethereal place if you like the concept behind it. Visited in the end of April, near Beltane, and could feel the atmosphere in town and near White Spring [reservoir].
Toriffic views from up there, upon the mound, which is rumoured to have been built by King Arthur's wife Guinevere in 555AD, as an elaborate plan to hide the Holy Grail.
