This hostel was actually quite nice, it was in a quieter area which led to me feeling a bit more rested after having a full on week prior. If you are after a social hostel, this isnt necessarily the place for you, it has the spaces for it but people were generally there to rest before continuing their trip. Thats the impression I had at least. There were other people complaining about the distance from the shops, it wasn’t far at all, literally just down the road. I found everything was quite accessible and the park next to the hostel quite nice to explore.
It's quite a walk to get to anything nearby, the closest metro station is a solid 10 minutes walk away. Not much nearby in terms of food or shops. Hostel is in an old building, its nice but has some issues. Staff recommended to not drink the water in the rooms, so you gotta hike 3 floors down to basement and then back up for water. No elevator obviously. Also not enough power plugs in the room I was in, only one power bar on the opposite side of the room. Can't charge your laptop or phone next to your bed, which is really a pain. Overall a pretty quiet hostel, not much going on and not much social engagement among the guests. Fine if you're traveling with friends but if traveling alone you'd be better off at a hostel with a decent bar to meet some folks to hang out with. Rooms: Older rooms, bunks are comfortable but don't have curtains, power outlets or any of the conveniences that newer hostels have. Would recommend they add a few extension cords so you can charge your phone next to your bed instead of having to leave it on the other side of the room. Walkability: Hostel is 10 minute walk from nearest bus stops or metro. No convenient to get around.
Amazing hostel in a great neighborhood. An unexpected old, big, unique building! The only downside was that we could hear the room next door, but everything else, especially the beds were super comfortable!Rooms: 4/5
Location was great, nice quiet neighbourhood. Lovely building and the park is right across the street - great for morning walks. The room was clean and the staff was so nice and helpful. The breakfast was average but good for a quick meal. The bed was very hard but that’s the only negative. Nearby activities: Kelvingrove Art Gallery/Museum and the University of Glasgow
I would not recommend. The location is in a nice area and the building is quite nice, but it was not an enjoyable stay at all. Even the location has issues since it's on top of a hill/mountain and a little tough/inconvenient to walk up. Also, not that close to the city center as it's a 30 minute walk. The beds/mattresses were terrible. The mattresses were either very old or very cheap. They're spring mattresses and you felt every coil poke you as you moved. There was no support and I had difficulties sleeping. The staff told me that one or two mattresses may have not been changed, but the issue was experienced by all of my roommates. The beds were made of a wooden frame which easily shook when someone moved. There were no privacy curtains to the beds either. No power outlets anywhere. In the bedroom, there was only one outlet in the entire room and everyone had to charge their devices on one strip. The worse part is that there were 6 people to the room and only 4 plugs. Very inconvenient if you need to charge in your bed. The dining room also didn't have a single outlet. The internet barely worked. It progressively got worse every day of my stay. At first it booted you off every hour and made you log in again. The next day it was every 10-15 minutes. When I checked out, it was every 5 minutes. I told reception and they made a note for the IT guy instead of trying to reset the internet themselves. Even when it was working, far too many websites were blocked and the web filter was too restrictive. Even though the building had many nice common areas, the hostel didn't do any events for the residents. There were no happy hours, no cheap group dinners, or game/trivia nights to bring people together. This was one of the most anti-social hostels that I have stayed at. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. It's just very poorly managed and it feels like ownership is just trying to make easy money without putting any effort or reinvesting back into the facilities. I found it even stranger that they were renting out their larger dining room for external corporate events. It just showed their only goal was to make as much money and not for their residents satisfaction.
My daughter and I spent the night. Our welcome couldn’t have been more friendly despite being half an hour early and the member of staff due to go off. He took the time to register us and share some local knowledge. We loved the location. It gave us quick access into town and the west end as well as only 20 mins walk to the OVO hydro to see Noah Kahan. Team in the morning were equally welcoming on reception and took time to engage. What an asset they all are. Great location. Very clean. We’ll definitely be back and spread the word that it’s a great friendly destination. Thanks all
This was a beautiful place to stay! The room and bathrooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, not to mention the view is wonderful. I can’t speak to the cleanliness of the kitchen; I only used it to fill my water a couple of times. The lockers were the largest I’ve encountered in a hostel, which was so nice. I was able to fit both my suitcase and my backpack inside, and there was still extra room. Now, I will say, this hostel is not very accessible for anyone with mobility issues. There are stairs everywhere, and I do mean everywhere. My room was on the top floor, and there were several flights of stairs to climb, and as far as I’m aware, no lift. The hostel is also situated at the top of a rather large hill, so if you’re treading on foot, be prepared for a climb. I also wish the showers had a bit more space for storing toiletries, there was only one hook for a single towel, and there were no shelves/stools in the shower to set items down. Besides this, I had an excellent time at this hostel and walked away with a couple of new friends as well. I didn’t spend much time in the common areas, as I was out and about, but they were spacious and comfortable-looking. There was lots to do nearby, including the botanical gardens and Kelvingrove Museum, and great restaurant options as well. I would stay again.
Didn't spend much time in the hostel, was just a place to stay before an early flight. Is only about 20 minutes away from the airport. Nice neighbourhood with some restaurant options nearby. Stayed in a private room. The room was clean; shower area is a bit small so keep that in mind.Rooms: 4/5
