Stayed for 3 nights for work and found the rooms very spacious and very clean. All staff members I met were very friendly and very helpful. The food was great and at a reasonable price for the area and was a quick friendly service so hats off to the kitchen staff and the servers . I would highly recommend The George and if I am back in the area I would not hesitate on staying here again
The George inn has fantastic potential but seems to fall short. Staff were pleasant enough when around and food was adequate. The lunch menu seemed very basic, although we were told they only had enough ham for one “ham egg & chips” which was surprising as we were the only people there. We weren’t offered a desert menu and our table wasn’t cleared, left a bit dissatisfied. Will not be going again. 3 out of 5.
Appalling service! Shown to a table, and drinks order taken so great start.... but that's where it ended. No menu given to us from the waiting staff, we had to find that ourselves. When the waiting staff came for our order they didn't know what the dishes of the day were, I mean really, basics. We ordered starters and a main each. A starter arrived on its own, delivered by the kitchen staff who quickly ran away. We waited and waited but no second starter arrived nor did any staff come to do a courtesy check. When the same member of staff that delivered the lonely starter, came back to clear, they thought the best course of action when asked to remove the second starter from the bill was to argue with my Girlfriend. Who knew, apparently that's a bad idea.... needless to say we didn't stay for the mains. Still at least the chippy was open down the road.nThe rooms are lovely, spacious and well decorated. The TV might as well be another wall painting though.nI'd recommend finding another town in Dartmoor to stop and explore, as overall at the George Inn you will be disappointed
Well! We went and asked if George was in, but apparently, he was out fighting a dragon somewhere.nnNot sure what it's like inside. It looks good outside, really old, about 1470.nnOnce again, good old Google can't tell the difference between the pub and the cafe next door. Which is where we were.
Phenomenal staff, very professional and helpful. Beautifully rebuilt old hotel. Comfortable bed, would be five stars for room but bathroom decor deteriorating
