We had Sunday lunch here a week ago with our family small kids, parents, grandparents and recommend it very highly. Several of us had the Sunday roast chicken, which was fabulous. Everything perfectly cooked, a wonderful assortment of veg, perfect roast potatoes, a huge Yorkshire pud. Perfection. One of us had brill with spinach and lentils, which was also perfect. Two small quibbles: the music was slightly louder than we would have liked, although they did turn it down when we asked, and it turned out that you have to book ahead if you want the roast beef. We just wandered in. The beef looked gorgeous, so it was a disappointment not to be able to have it. Everything else was a plus. Staff were very pleasant and we didn't have to wait very long for our food.
Lovely Sunday roast. Venue is nice, but felt that the table was a little cramped and this was surprising as there were many free tables on lower floors etc. The dinner as not as big as expected from looking at menu, but reasonable price. My friend said his roast was a little cold, but mine was ok. Would still recommend.
We went into this restaurant on spec at the end of July and were so impressed. The meal was really good value and was served by a charming, helpful young lady. The owner, a well travelled Irishman who has a host of talents, from cooking to acrobatics, was amenable and good fun. Sadly the restaurant was only half full, mainly it seems because most people prefer the fast food approach. Yet Gascoyne Place offers superb pre-theatre dinner. I would definitely go back when I return to Bath.
Good solid above standard Pub Grub which was exactly what was needed after the Rugby! Nice menu with a lot of choice and all at a reasonable price. Their Beer list is also quite extensive. Credit to their staff also; friendly, efficient and attentive!!
Excellent choice for a pre-theatre meal. I've been several times and have not been disappointed. Good menu, reasonably priced, beautifully presented. Service is relaxed, friendly and efficient. Last visit I had a Roasted Chicken Breast Salad which was delicious. The negative reviews below are dated and not in my opinion an accurate reflection of the place now.
Gascoyne's Place was recommended to us and I'm so glad it was. The food was wonderful and our waitress was lovely, friendly and helpful. We shared a starter which was goat's cheese mousse, it was delicious. Then we had our own mains; fish and chips and Split Pea Fritters, and then shared a pudding Lemon Posset. With alcohol this all came to just over £50 which was amazing value for this meal If I ever go back to Bath I will definitely be visiting this restaurant again.
Having recently visited for our work's Christmas meal, I'd like to say we were all impressed. Personally, the Vanilla Rice Pudding Desert was the icing on the cake as it were, but the Turkey was first class too. Would recommend it to other businesses.
Fantastic food and lovely staff I cannot express how good this place is. I have been here five times and it is consistently fantastic. The front of house staff are very friendly and have excellent attention to detail Highly recommended.
Residents of Bath, my partner and I treated a friend from London to lunch at GP yesterday. We were extremely embarrassed that the experience was so bad. Any waiter can have an accident, but what matters is how they deal with it. GP failed spectacularly on this score - as well as in other aspects of customer service. Specifically, the waiter knocked an empty glass off a neighbouring table, which smashed around our feet and sent shards of glass onto our table. Luckily our friend had finished her starter, but some shards went into my soup - and other small pieces may well have been elsewhere on our table e.g. in our wine glasses. How did GP respond? With a muttered sorry, and inadequate brushing up of the floor with a long-handled brush and pan, almost knocking our own wine bottle over. The waiter did not appear to appreciate the implications of showering guests, and their food, in broken glass, or the dangers of swallowing small shards of glass. There was no offer to replace the soup we did ask, no cleaning off of our table, and no real apology. When we challenged this, he offered me not our guest or my partner a free coffee - which I did not really want. He also charged us for the soup. As to more general comments: there was one member of staff to deal with all the different areas; the service was very slow; the restaurant was extremely cold; and the food - though mostly tasty - was tepid. We will not be going back.
The roast dinner was OK but was expecting it to tastes better for the price. Beef very rare, undercooked veg and very salty potatoes!! Tasted very bland!!!
