I pass through Garswood station on a fairly regular basis and am always received with a warm welcome. Nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff there, particularly Scott who goes above and beyond to ensure the station is spick and span, and that commuters are well informed and well catered for. It can be a miserable experience passing through some stations but not here, no Sir! I look forward to interacting with the staff here perhaps more than anywhere else. They are a credit to Northern Rail. See you soon, choo choo!
Visited Garswood Station as a tourist and had a surprisingly great experience. The station itself is no nonsense. But the real highlight was Scott, who works there. Absolute gentleman. With a friendly “Hello,” Lionel Ritchie style he pointed me in the right direction with the confidence of a man who has rescued many confused travelers before me. Charming, funny, and somehow made waiting for a train feel like part of the holiday. If every station had a Scott, public transport would heal the nation.
The station staff were really friendly but this could not make up for the fact that it was the most depressing station I have ever seen. Straight out of a scene from trainspotting, it had a metal-grilled waiting room, with benches ripped from the walls and hung with signs feeling the need to tell you not to urinate there.
Have to go up the steps and over the bridge to get to platform for liverpool. Not easy with a pram and 2 year old
No lift. Stairs dirty and very rusty
