It is amazing to find this historic ruined Cathedral in Fortrose. It makes you wonder what went on all these years ago. Although the Cathedral is ruinous you can get an idea of the size and it is very central to Fortrose. Entrance is free via the Fortrose War Memorial which acts as an entrance arch. Parking is limited and very tight. Well worth a look for historic purposes, and there are a few information notices to read.
I'm always amazed to see ruins like this. Nice to walk around and get a feel for the place. Easy parking not many spaces just next to the ruins. Would have liked a bit more info as I couldn't understand the layout. It's nice enough.
Nice ruined site of the Fortrose Cathedral with nice surrounding grass area. We parked just up the street at a car park beside the fire station which was free and only a 2 min walk away. The cathedral itself is as you would expect in a ruined state with metal fencing in place to stop you gaining entrance to the inside which is quite a shame. You can still see inside and take pictures as you wish. There are a few history boards dotted around to give you information about the cathedral. Worth a visit.
A stunning building with lots of decorative carvings and inscriptions. The original cathedral would have been quite the sight to behold! Unfortunately the gates are locked so we couldn't read the plaques inside the remaining structure.
Not a spectacular cathedral but well worth a visit nonetheless. In a lovely quiet square the ruin, which dates back to the 1200s is steeped in history. Information boards are on hand to help you and there are many features inside and outside to see. Free to visit and fully accessible.
Nice little cathedral ruins that is well maintained. Situated at the centre of a quaint town. Car park available, but cost 2 pounds cant rmb exactly how much.
A great spot for those interested in historical places. Mary Queen of Scots stayed at the Fortrose Cathedral for a couple of days and it's also believed to be the burial place of Andrew Moray.
The existing ruin which was just part of a once imposing cathedral is definitely worth a visit. The grounds are well maintained. The setting exudes a sense of history.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
The stunning remains of a cathedral which was dismantled by Oliver Cromwell. Free to enter, there are a few information boards around the cathedral, as well as a grave yard to the reer of the ruins. The cathedral itself is exposed on one side, but is fenced off to prevent people entering. There is a free carpark in front of the cathedral.
A place worth visiting. Amazing to see what was not destroyed during a fire.
