Well maintained park in the city. A very historical place commemorating the final battle of the English civil war. It is a steep climb to the top when approaching from the Commandery next door. There are steps and a slope for all users. Good views from the top. Dogs allowed.
Fort Royal Hill Worcester. Fort Royal was a Civil War sconce or redoubt on a small hill to the south-east of Worcester overlooking the Sidbury Gate. It was built by the Royalists in 1651 to defend the hill, because during the siege in 1646 Parliamentary forces had positioned their artillery on the hill and had been able to severely damage the city's walls. During the final stages of the Battle of Worcester, fought on 3 September 1651, the last battle of the war and a Parliamentary victory, the Royalists retreat turned into a rout in which Parliamentarian and Royalist forces intermingled and skirmished up to and into the city. The Royalist position became untenable when the Essex militia stormed and captured Fort Royal, turning the Royalist guns to fire on Worcester.
Probably the best place to get photos of Worcester with its cathedral. Good play area. Steep hills. Historical information boards relating to Battle of Worcester in 1651.
Great little gem near the centre of Worcester. Well presented gardens. Replica cannons and well presented information boards tell the story of the civil war. Wooden forts for the little ones and older kids. Fantastic views across the city, cathedral and onwards to the Malverns.
Recommend going here to walk your dog early very peaceful, great park for the kids, or just to sit and take in the surroundings of all the beautiful plants, very clean and if the weather nice go have a picnic
Great views over Worcester and across to the Malvern Hills. A fine selection of paths, trees, flowers and grass. Generally very clean and tidy. Its location on a steep hillside may not suit those with mobility issues or residents of the Netherlands/Texas, and it also contributes to the high risk of personal injury when sledging in the winter snow. If you feel an urgent need for alcohol I would recommend JB Wines just up London Road but you will be breaking the law if you drink it in the park, so don't do it. Especially not in the excellent children's adventure playground that is situated near the lower entrance.
I went to this place just to have some fresh air in the evening. It was sunny when i left for there but it rained on our way back. I must admit that i got much more than I had expected. On the negative side this place is not very big but as there are not many people around, you can spend pretty amazing time there. You can walk your dog, just make sure you dont litter there. You can sit on a bench as there are many. Just dont forget that it is non alcoholic zone. From the raised areas of the park, you can have an awesome view of the Malvern Hills. Then there is a lot of history attached to the place. I am adding some infographics in photos You can view those. And Before i forget, there is a great play area for the kids and adults are more than welcome to go there provided that they have a responsible kid with them or so does it say on a plate there.
Beautiful views over Worcester, two American presidents planted a tree there, playground, history of Civil War Battle of Worcester, well kept gardens.
Spring flowers in the well-kept park with a children's play area. Bonus is the great view over the City, as it was the site of the 1651 Battle of Worcester, the final battle of the English Civil War.
Beautiful park with stunning views of worcs and malvern hills.great to watch the sun set
