Fort Pitt Grammar School

About

We are an innovative school with a very clear vision of what we want to achieve.

Story

We are an innovative school with a very clear vision of what we want to achieve. Our ethos is founded on four “excellences”, starting with academic excellence. Without outstanding teaching and learning taking place – day in, day out – everything else a school might excel at will go to waste. However, we know that any great school is about so much more than what happens in the classroom, which explains our belief in community excellence. Being an outward-looking and modern institution, Fort Pitt embraces this engagement at school, local, national and global level. Appearance excellence relates to the high standards maintained by students in terms of uniform, presentation and behaviour. Last but by no means least comes environment excellence. To support the other three “excellences’, we believe a high quality learning environment, totally focussed on learning, raising aspirations, achievement and celebration is essential and promotes and supports the development of pride, self-respect and enjoyment.

Reviews
As a student who has attended Fort Pitt I'd like to make a note myself. Reading the reviews I have been very disappointed. The first thing I took notice to was the notes on the supposed 'school stabbing'. This in fact is a large rumour, put simply, two men had entered the premises without permission, unarmed. They were escorted and that was that. Teachers took it very well and despite it being unexpected there was no true panic. The students and educators are very intelligent and kind people. The school is not as strict as many describe it, detentions and behaviour points are only awarded for bad behaviour; they are very reasonable are will give you warning before hand. I do recommend sending your child here, I understand for some it may be a poor experience, however, a lot of this may be influenced by unfit friendships, not the school itself. It offers plenty of support and they really do try their best.
I'm sorry but the fact this school has such terrible reviews abd is still the tops. When I arrived at this school a few years ago I already wanted to leave like the teachers, they are never here and therr son one substitute or it's one from a random class but the one sub Mrs Vilder is the worst. She acts like she owns the school and is handing out detention slips left and right making children stay back in class. I got yelled out last year for telling her the time and it's outrageous she went on a lecture it was so bad I skipped school for the whole week I'm sorry but I thought so wrong of this school but I net so many good people thus is not a good school for ur children the headteacher Hirons doesn't give two dawns about you it is ridiculous, the wellbeing hub doesn't do anything it's not a school I would send my children to
UPDATE: PLEASE READ!!nnSchool doesn't give a damn about mental health. Umpteen assemblies on mental health and autism awareness but don't put it into practice unless diagnosed.nnIf you have a child awaiting for an autism assessment in the upper years, be ready for a total lack of care and support. Head of Senco and head of years are dismissive and uneducated. Apparently they know more than autistic parents with autistic children about behaviours of possibly autistic child. Tried telling me that know child can mask all day at school. Also if academically ok and quiet then there's not an issue. Head of year is rude and ignorant. I urge any parent to push for assessment as soon as possible.nHirons is not interested as it's impossible to get to her. Tried talking to her, pushed back to other staff!!nSenco said they had completed school assessments as such so that's it!nAlso your daughters are not called girls anymore, they are people!!nnIf I'd seriously urge you to rethink sending your daughter here.nnNot impressed at all and hoping my daughter will opt to move for year 12!nThis school is going to accept boys soon. I, along with most chose this school as it single sex. I wanted my daughter to go to a single sex school yet it will be mixed. Having another daughter in a mixed school I don't think Fort Pitt understand what they have done. Get ready for the mayhem that will insue!nVery woke school. Constantly bombarded with lessons and assemblies on history I deem irrelevant, another brain washing opportunity. Teachers talk too much about their personal lives for my liking. Awful with marking work, when it's not self marking.nMy daughter is middle of the road here, don't expect any support if your child is 'average'. I was told that children receiving grades 4 and below are offered extra classes and support to raise their grades, children achieving 7 and above are given extra support and classes to boost their grades to 8-9.nChildren,like mine achieving 5-6 , nothing!!!!! Discrimination. This school has gone down hill dramatically. I really would consider a different school.
THIS SCHOOL IS HORRIBLE do not recommend everytime you try to improve your teachers just Yell in your ear infection I feel like the teachers aren't even in controll if u want to know why the reason behind this is because a girl threw a chair at me and laughed the teacher said since there's no proof she won't do it I'm so sick of it they always favouritism people
My daughter went here she struggled with English and was told by private tuition think she will be able for extra time when contacted school was told exam costs 800 pounds and they would review it never did has know gone to holcombe for 6th form done the test and been given 25% extra time in exams
