Had a brilliant time at this historical site, although the outdoor section is free to explore we chose to book an organised tour, excellent value at £8 for adults for a 90min+ tour. Saturday Steve was our fabulous tour guide and enthusiastically guided as through the tunnels which were not always level or brightly lit. He included everyone from all ages, locals and visitors alike. There was also a squirrel hunt and children's play area to keep the little ones amused.
The Cockney Knights were great at the Fort for the summer proms.nnI love visiting the fort, recommend tunnel tours but even just for a walk and take in the views too. Great to learn about local history.
Spare a Fort for the bees experience - our original booking in April had to be postponed understandably due to inclement weather, but today made up for it. Beautiful sun, a chance to cool ourselves in the old powder store while getting a short intro on bees from their friendly enthusiastic volunteer, and seeing the setup of an uninhabited hive by the bee keeper. Time to don keeper suits to go up close to see the bees near the Victorian allotment site. It's a relaxed hands-on buzz with the bees, getting a chance to see a hive inspected, handle full combs, spot the queen, identify drones, workers and larvae, take lots of photos and ask as many questions as you like.nEnding the experience with a little spread of sandwiches, scones and beverage in the Pantry cafe after plus you own jar of honey and certificate to take home. You will need to be able to walk up from the pantry cafe to the site. So sensible footwear and mobility is needed. Parking is included. A nicely presented experience.
A special day laid on mainly for children. But lots to see . The site is not best suited for the Elderly or Disabled due to the age of the place.nOn a normal day the fort is open to visitors to show the some of the vast history Medway has to offer. Not a very big car park. But public car parks are very close..
Took a tour on Sunday with Archie. Archie was extremely knowledgeable and knew just the right amount of detail to share to keep the tour interesting and engaging but could go into a huge amount of background when asked questions. Archie made the tour very interactive, with guest interactions, participation and questions. He kept a mixed group of adults, children, locals and visitors captivated throughout. Thank you Archie!
