The Old Forge Cottage was a delight! In a lovely little village, it has been restored to such a high standard by the owners themselves. Caroline and Nigel have worked their magic and this was a lovely place to stay. We arrived to a welcome basked full of goodies and a delicious cake. The comfortable cottage was fully equipped with everything you could need. Many lovely villages were within easy reach, also York and the coast, lots to see and do. Thanks for a great holiday, can fully recommend it. John and Celie
The Old Forge was the perfect holiday home for our three generation family group. Well equipped, sparkly clean, really comfortable single storey accommodation in a pretty village within easy reach of both the coast and many tourist attractions. Particularly liked Castle Howard and the steam railway from Pickering. Great lemon drizzle cake provided by Caroline the owner who lives next door and is friendly, available if needed but not obtrusive. Good pub just up the road - we can heartily recommend The Old Forge!
From the generous welcome pack to the obvious quality of everything in the cottage and the location in the pretty little village of West Lutton meant that we were set for a great time. Attractions in easy reach from deserted villages like Wharram Percy with its aeons of history to the awesome seabird colonies at RSPB Bempton Cliffs and seals at Flamborough Head, not forgetting towns such as Beverley and the foodie town of Malton just add to the delights. We had great weather so were able to cover a lot of miles on local walks following many of the waymarked long distance routes and making bits up were we needed to. Caroline and Nigel were friendly and helpful; great hosts and it was a pleasure to holiday here. No doubt in our minds that we would come here again and would heartily recommend this cottage and area to everyone.
We stayed at The Old Forge to celebrate my wife's birthday with our children and grandchildren and had a lovely weekend. Thanks to Caroline for looking after the little touches which meant a lot to us, welcome pack of local produce and a home baked cake, how she knew lemon drizzle is our family favourite I'll never know. She went the extra mile with a card and complimentary bottle also. The house itself is immaculate and is extremely comfortable, the kitchen is well equipped, so much so that we were able to cater for 11 for lunch with no problems on Sunday. The village of West Lutton is quiet which suited us and is an excellent base from which to visit the local area. Malton is only 20 minutes away and Castle Howard a little further than that. I'd certainly recommend The Old Forge to anyone wanting quality accommodation on one level that is to a very high standard.
We have just had a fabulous week at The Old Forge and it is in the ideal location for exploring all parts of North Yorkshire. The Old Forge is all on one level and was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. We will definitely return and visit the places we didn't get to see this time. Thank you to Caroline, Nigel, and Archiedog for the lovely welcome pack and especially the lemon drizzle cake.
Forge Cottage presented us with the perfect base from which to spend a week whilst enjoying the opportunity to explore the area with some lovely walks and historical venues that are within easy reach . The cottage was presented by Caroline herself on arrival , the underfloor heating offered an instant homely warm environment we were there the last week of Nov , the log burner awaited our use as required with a full compliment of logs stacked ready for use . The attention to detail was obvious from the outset , everything available for use to support our stay and presented immaculately clean , a lovely touch was the welcome pack of "goodies" to top it off . I defy anyone not to look out from the Forge to the neighbouring Church of West Lutton without a feeling of calm descending on them . In summary we thought ourselves lucky to have found such a delightful place to stay.
Lovely cottage in a great location for exploring both the Wolds and Yorkshire coast. Everything was spotlessly clean and the rooms were comfortable and spacious. Caroline the host was very friendly and able to recommend local sights and attractions.
Just returned from a fabulous stay at the beautiful cottage “The Old Forge”. Meeting up with old school friends this was the perfect spot for visiting the historic city of York, a trip to the gorgeous market town of Malton, exploring the Yorkshire Wolds and the local villages with their quaint and quirky pubs... we even managed the pub quiz and bingo in the local! and we won the cottage is warm and cosy with everything you’d want for a lovely break with family or friends. Local goodies were left for us including a delicious and homemade lemon drizzle cake . I have no hesitation in recommending this cottage and look forward to returning hopefully next year!
Highly recommend The Old Forge. Very well equipped and to a high standard. Our stay was very comfortable and the welcome pack was a lovely touch with delicious home made cake! Great location for touring North Yorkshire with coastal trips to Whitby and Bridlington including stunning Flamborough Head walk, city trips to Harrogate and York and a fabulous walk on the Castle Howard estate. Local pubs and bakeries were also great and removed the requirement to cook.
Just returned from a wonderful 4 nights at The Old Forge. Our age range was 4-85 and the accommodation was excellent for everyone. Clean, well-presented and a lovely local food hamper, lemon drizzle cake and fresh flowers on arrival. Such an excellent location for exploring North Yorkshire. 30 minutes from the sea, 40 minutes from York, and so quiet and peaceful. Friendly local pub and the donkeys opposite were a favourite with the children. Caroline and Nigel were welcoming hosts, as was Archie the dog! The Yorkshire Wolds is a special place and we will definitely return.
