The tower itself is very nice and it is very interesting seeing the obscura as it allows you to see all over Brighton. The views are amazing and the you can easily walk from the tower to devils dyke. It is around 5km and the walk is lovely.
Unique experience seeing one of the largest camera obscuras in the UK, AND a great place for views of the local countryside. Peter was an incredibly knowledgeable guide. Great place for a morning visit but maybe worth calling to make sure they’re open first!
A really nice place to visit. The views are great even from ground level. There is a small garden and a tiny cafe. The camera obscura is well worth a visit, and is a bargain at £2.50. For that you get access to the viewing gallery at the top of the tower a lot of steps! which has large windows on all sides, making the view even better. The camera obscura presentation is good, and lasts 20-30 minutes. You are invited to stay up there and enjoy the view. Planning is required; as all the publicity CLEARLY says, phone them before visiting. It is run by volunteers, and at present operates only on certain days of the week, with hourly presentations only at certain times and of course it's not particularly useful if it's dark. If volunteers are unavailable, it cannot open. Lastly, choose a day with good visibility for best results; the ideal conditions are a cold, clear winter's day. Summer heat haze will reduce the distance you can see.
Hi To think that the tower used to be an isolated isolation hospital and visitors had to wear a mask. Now it is a attraction with a camera obscura.wotrth a visit. Ernest.
Utter waste of time. Their posted opening hours are a joke - we travelled over there only to find a totally confusing notice on the gate that, essentially, says very little but implies they are closed to the public. I only give this one star because it's impossible to give fewer!
Used for the start of a walk, and due to Covid it was not open for visitors. Maybe at end of June 21?
Stunning views of coast, the Downs and surrounding villages/towns with fascinating local history entertainingly given. And a bargain at £2.50 each.
A place with an interesting history, worth a visit. The obscula is impressive as well. Really recommend it
Now Portslade Academy owned but still has the viewing area and little cafe. Love it.
Excellent views and feels it's in the countryside although easy to get to
