I recently visited the Flotterstone Inn after a day of hiking in the Pentland Hills, and I have to say that it was the perfect end to a great day. The pub itself was very traditional, with a wood-burning fire that added to the cozy and inviting atmosphere. The warm smell of the fire filled the air, creating a very comfortable ambiance. The bar staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, making me feel right at home as soon as I walked in the door. They were knowledgeable about the menu and made some great recommendations for me to try. The highlight of the visit was definitely the food. It was absolutely fantastic and everything we tried was cooked to perfection. The portions were generous and the quality of the ingredients was top-notch. The pub is clearly dedicated to sourcing local produce, and it really shows in the flavor and quality of the food. Overall, the Flotterstone Inn is a great place to visit for food and drink after a climb of the Pentland Hills. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the food is simply outstanding. I would highly recommend this pub to anyone looking for a great meal in a traditional Scottish setting.
Fantastic place. Stopped here for a pint after our hike. Staff were friendly, venue was fantastic had a fireplace going which made it extremely cozy. I'd definitely recommend going here!
After a long walk in the hills we nipped in here to hopefully warm up and get a feed. The dining room was freezing cold and when noticing a small heater nearby, I switched it on, the owner came along and put it off. Politely asked if I could put it back on and he flatly stated "I've put it off". When I told him I was freezing, he did relent but it never got warm enough to take jacket off the whole visit. The food was basic, school canteen type of offering - yet came with jaw droppingly inflated prices. We've paid less for really delicious meals in the city centre. The ambience was uncomfortable with harsh spot lighting and a commercial radio blasting over our heads. Definitely not the cosy tavern we hoped for! There is a beautiful wood burner through in the bar but it's simply not enough to heat through the whole place. Toilets were dirty, particularly the gents that had urine all over the floor. The whole place has a sad run down look. Held off from writing this review as realise many business's are struggling with the current cost of living crisis, but looking back years of previous reviews, can see the owners have been over charging and under delivering for a long time. I imagine they are comfortable in the knowledge that walkers will always pop in due to the location and lack of any competition in the vicinity. Don't make the mistake we made and just go somewhere else.
Me and my wife we stopped by as we needed toilet on our way to Edinburgh. Toilets are for customers only, and we bought coffee, which was £4.25 for the worst coffee ever. I like it with sugar and when I’ve asked for 6 sachets they said we will put them…did they thought we will steal their sugar or something… Avoid…better should we’ve wait to get to Edinburgh…
Great place to fill up after a Pentlands walk, good pub grub and warm atmosphere on every visit. Fish and chips delivered exactly what was needed. Child and particularly dog friendly for those walking with poochesService: 5/5
Great pub food and a nice way to end a walk in the pentlands. However its best to have cash on you as they have dodgy Wi-Fi so sometimes this POS machine doesn’t work.
Terrible service here today. I wanted a bacon cheese burger for my son without the cheese. The reaction I received was why do people have to be so awkward. He is a child. They don't like some things. She said to another unhappy customer. I don't care if you won't be back. We are selling soon. I think you should sell sooner rather than later. Quite clearly you don't want customers in your establishment.
The flotterstone is a lovely restaurant located at the start of the Pentland Hills national park. The atmosphere is cosy and the building itself has a lot of character and traditional features. The food and service were really good, the cost is probably in the middle zone but it is definitely worth it. This would be a perfect pit stop before or after you have been on an adventure through the hills.
Situated at the entrance of Pentland hills car park. Summit the hills and come back here for a quick refreshment. Best cheesy chips. Cozy place to Sit, Talk and Eat. Much recommended
Food was really nice, excellent location and nice traditional looking pub with beer garden. Only 3 stars due to the unwelcome attitude from the staff, felt like we were a hindrance to them. Food also very expensive.Location: 5/5
