Went with a friend for a Sunday breakfast after a long walk. And it has gone down hill. Prices have doubled. £4.25 for a coffee the owner was rude said only did fried eggs which I don't eat.and took off my plate and still charged me for it. £8.50 for a small breakfast one sausage one slice of bacon burnt beans raw tomato and toast with no butter. And to top it off website says open at 10am but didn't oper till nearer 11 am. Go to the wee cafe in the car park. So much nicer.
Food was really nice, excellent location and nice traditional looking pub with beer garden. Only 3 stars due to the unwelcome attitude from the staff, felt like we were a hindrance to them. Food also very expensive.Location: 5/5
Situated at the entrance of Pentland hills car park. Summit the hills and come back here for a quick refreshment. Best cheesy chips. Cozy place to Sit, Talk and Eat. Much recommended
After a long walk in the hills we nipped in here to hopefully warm up and get a feed. The dining room was freezing cold and when noticing a small heater nearby, I switched it on, the owner came along and put it off. Politely asked if I could put it back on and he flatly stated "I've put it off". When I told him I was freezing, he did relent but it never got warm enough to take jacket off the whole visit. The food was basic, school canteen type of offering - yet came with jaw droppingly inflated prices. We've paid less for really delicious meals in the city centre. The ambience was uncomfortable with harsh spot lighting and a commercial radio blasting over our heads. Definitely not the cosy tavern we hoped for! There is a beautiful wood burner through in the bar but it's simply not enough to heat through the whole place. Toilets were dirty, particularly the gents that had urine all over the floor. The whole place has a sad run down look. Held off from writing this review as realise many business's are struggling with the current cost of living crisis, but looking back years of previous reviews, can see the owners have been over charging and under delivering for a long time. I imagine they are comfortable in the knowledge that walkers will always pop in due to the location and lack of any competition in the vicinity. Don't make the mistake we made and just go somewhere else.
Great place to fill up after a Pentlands walk, good pub grub and warm atmosphere on every visit. Fish and chips delivered exactly what was needed. Child and particularly dog friendly for those walking with poochesService: 5/5
Well overpriced for the size of the portions.. place looks pretty shabby and rundown. The guy serving behind the bat was pretty rude and asked 'what do you want?' When taking our order.
Went for lunch today. The girl behind the bar was lovely and very helpful. We ordered steak pie, battered haddock and a breaded haddock. I had the battered haddock which was dripping in grease. I thought I would just eat the fish without the batter but unfortunately it was just as greasy inside. My salad had become inedible and as most of the chips were under the fish I couldn't eat them either. The gentleman that cleared our table didn't ask why my meal wasn't eaten. No check back and no interest. Very disappointing lunch.
Nice little pub with a sizeable beer garden right next to the Flotterstone visitors center. Went for lunch to get a more substantial meal than the cafe in the park and was thoroughly pleased with our toasties and baked potato. Dog and kid friendly as well and you can walk from the visitor center car park though they have their own car park too.
Delightful pub with great selection of ales. Nice atmosphere & friendly service. We didn't eat at this visit but looking at the available menu we are sure to in the future.
The most expensive coffe/hot choco in whole Midlothians ...cups were 8oz and hot choco made of hot water not milk ...for take away poor quality drinks it's way too much.
