Flag Fen is an important and interesting Bronze Age site. The archaeological park is nicely laid out and includes a replica of a Bronze Age roundhouse. That having been said there isn't an awful lot here and so far not much from the nearby Must Farm excavation. Certainly worth a diversion from the A1M but perhaps not a long journey in itself.
Incredible history of this impressive site, some nice displays and lots of little places to explore, nice and quiet with a decent little shop/cafe. A very nice way to spend a few hours for not a lot of money.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Absolute Gem of a place. From fascinating artefacts to knowledgeable and friendly staff. Everything is so reasonably priced it's unreal. If I lived closer, I'd definitely stop here for some coffee and cake more often.Visited onWeekendWait time1 hr+Reservation recommendedNo
Great place to visit, friendly and welcoming staff, I found interesting is the reconstructed prehistoric landscape at the back next to the round house.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
A really nice experience and a place well worth a visit. It's situated just outside of Peterborough but it feels so isolated which is lovely!. You can just imagine how the Bronze Age people lived in their houses of which there are replicas on site and went about their day to day business. It is disability accessible, but a lot of the paths are little more than muddy tracks especially in winter - so wear your wellies! There's plenty of poop around as well as sheep live on site, and there's a lot of rabbits and wildlife in general, so again be prepared to get muddy shoes. I was lucky enough to see a kite flying about as well - glorious! There's a few buildings you can visit including an information center with a cafe/gift shop which is your first port of call when visiting - the cafe is lovely and the staff are wonderful. There's also a dig tent which is a building for the kids, a section of the preserved causeway inside a building so they can keep it damp, and a building playing videos of how Bronze Age people built boats to travel. And of course there's the replica houses which you can go inside. There is plenty of on site parking which is free to visitors as well. I spent a good few hours there, but honestly I could have spent all day there - and would do if I lived closer. It's just so nice that places like this exist, it feels good being so close to nature and imagining the lives of people from long, long ago. Kudos to everyone that keeps the place running - I will certainly be returning.
Lovely day out. Took children 7&9 as they learn about prehistoric settlements at school and this gives a great practical experience to help understand what they'll be learning about. They loved exploring the big dig areas and going in the round house. Very quiet even mid summer holidays. Enjoyed tea and cake in the cafe after too. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Thank you
It's a nice place. Takes you back in history and time. Lovely for an afternoon or morning. Nice place to have a picnic. I wouldn't spend all day there. Parking is free. Very little shop there.
This was our first visit after many years and whilst it was great to be back on a site that is so full of history, it was sad to see that only one of the three roundhouses has survived to date. The preservation hall is a definite must see as we found it quite amazing to be amongst evidence from over 3000 years ago! Parts of the site are in desperate need of tidying up which I'm assuming has been neglected due to lack of funding. It would be a shame to see a something that is so important to our history fall into ruin due to neglect and lack of funding. Its a great place for families and parking is free too which is a bonus. We'll definitely be back with a picnic soon, and hopefully Flag Fen will soon get the care and financial support it so desperately needs.
Great afternoon out with the family, always good to watch the animals run round free too. Few babies too. Was a little disappointed that the Big Dig Den was closed for access though Well recommended
Very interesting place. Just a shame they only had 1 member of staff on the desk, trying to do 2 jobs with the cafe aswell. Not much choice of food & drinks ether.
