I went to this school from being 9 years old to 11 years old when I took my schollarship exam and go to Pudsey Grammar school. This was in 1944 - 1946. My favourite teacher (of all time) was Mr. Illingworth who helped me pass the schollarship with a distinction and I was not the brightest button in the box being in Standard 4B at the time, my twin sister was in Standard 4A. One afternoon my friend, Roy Edgley received the cane from one of the masters so later on while 'helping' the caretaker, Roy and I collected all the canes in the school except for the headmasters whose office was locked. We then bunrned them in the school furnace. The next day Roy was invited to receive the cane again at which time the master (the same one) got quite a surprise while we got quite a laugh when he discovered that his cane had gone 'walkabout'. Roy did not get off the hook, however, as he was sent to the headmasters office to receive the treatment from him which was dished out using a much larger cane.
