Lovely place to visit. The mill is a mile or two outside the beautiful little town of Sedbergh and there is a country walk from the town to the mill. Inside the mill is lots of information about the history of the building, it's owners and workers as well as live weaving demonstrations and a chance to try it out yourself. It's set over 4 floors with lift and stairs access, floors 2 and 3 were mainly work and display areas for artists and crafts people who rent space in the building. Lovely tea room/ cafe on the bottom floor serves hot and cold drinks as well as snacks, small meals and a range of homemade cakes. This can be accessed directly if you don't want to do the mill itself and just outside the door to the cafe is a picturesque view of the river that once powered the machinery. There is no charge for entering the mill but they do ask for donations.
Interesting visit here - my wife is interested in crafts, so there was plenty to keep her occupied. I'm not a craftsman, but loved the building and the history of the mill. The coffee shop was good - a very decent Christmas turkey sandwich special went down well with both of us. Worth a visit. They do ask for a discretionary £5 donation instead of an entry fee - the website would only allow me to select £10 but there is a machine near the entrance.
Peaceful craft centre in an old mill. Where better to enjoy a light breakfast with a cool breeze the sound of flowing water and the Sun breaking through . Magic
Absolutely worth a side trip or a stop. The old mill buildings alone are worth it. Historical artifacts including 300 year old loom and a big old turbine. Artist mini-galleries where you can chat to the artist. Worthy art and design-led gift shop. Spacious and airy cafe with some outdoor seating. Excellent espresso and scones.
Bit of a hidden gem. It has really interesting exhibitions, some static and some that come and go. There is a fine range of craft outlets, with beautiful and imaginative creations ceramics, prints, textiles, jewellery etc. Very nice cafe in the basement. Get on over there, I'd say!
Great space to shop for unique art - ceramics, paintings- jewellery, textiles, greetings cards, toiletries and more. Always interesting traveling exhibitions plus the permanent exhibition about the history of wool and weaving at the mill is fascinating. Top off with a trip to the café!
Beautifully restored working mill, now used for artists to exhibit their works, lots of woven goods, wool, wood, glass and metalwork. Great place for Xmas gifts.
We visited on Saturday of Easter weekend. It was very quiet for what you might expect to be a busy day. The place is full of small studio like spaces and tons of arts and crafts stuff was for sale. Staff were friendly and really happy to talk to us about what they were doing. We went to the cafe too. Didn't try the food but the coffee was great.
Interesting place to visit. Many units selling crafts, pottery, paintings, woollen goods, etc. Nice café and reasonable parking areas. Well worth a visit.
Excellent cafe. Everyone very helpful. Good lift. History of weaving woven with Spitfires!
