Lovely location. Great, interactive, and interesting displays. 40 min walk from the Submarine museum or a separate waterbus with limited times. We drove in the end, and parking was a bit confusing. Went in through the Powder Monkey brewery and found parking there.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Absolutely the best guided tour ever in my life. The guide was amazingly knowledgeable and extended my own knowledge a lot. And it all was done in a very interesting form that even my girlfriend enjoyed. It can be seen that they take pride in their work and enjoy it. After the end I wanted to go again and to different sections as to keep it concise we only touched the details of maybe half of the things.
It’s Neville the Bear here. I had a fantastic visit to the Explosion museum today. It was very interesting and I enjoyed looking around. I particularly liked dressing up in the outfits - the sailor hat was my favourite. I would recommend this museum to my fellow bear friends
We had a look around at some the exhibits outside guns, missile systems etc then went into the museum in time to catch a guided tour. Be prepared for very knowledgeable, extremely in depth explanations of the evolution of projectile weapons from advent of naval cannons through to self guided anti ship missiles, depth charges, mines and nuclear bombs. Or just wander round and read about it all alongside the wide array of artillery and ordnance on display. Fascinating stuff, I loved it.
Took a boat trip from the historical dockyard to visit this awesome museum.. Naval firepower through the ages. Never thought I'd ever see an actual nuclear bomb or missile. The size of some of the artillery shells will surprise non military visitors. There are numerous exhibits so allow plenty of time. Cafe and souvenir shop on site.
Part of the overall explorer ticket for Portsmouth Historic Dockyards but limited free boat trips from Portsmouth side may mean you're better driving here parking is free, unless you plan your timings carefully. This museum is a lot less interactive than other docklands areas. With a lot of text associated with the exhibits & many in quite dim lighting. There is both a cafe and gift shop. There's also a separate Powder monkey bar/cafe onsite & plenty of picnic tables
What a wonderful experience it was to visit this place , the guide Gavin Mackey took it to another level by explaining every single detail with so much enthusiasm that we got carried away in the actual build of these explosives , the museum is one of the best places to visit in the Portsmouth historic dockyard, and would surely rate is the best with Gavin, kids will surely love him as he explains every detail of the kids queries . Would surely recommend this place and give it a very very good visit
Amazing museum. Lovely tour guide full of knowledge and passion. Please Royal Navy keep this great museum going. An essential part of the whole experience actually explaining the process of explosion from the start to present.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
