I recently had the pleasure of staying at the explorers retreat hotel after booking a day out for my family at Gullivers kingdom.nnAfter a fantastic day in the park we checked into the explorers retreat hotel and went to see the room. Having experienced countless hotels from basic to luxurious. I feel this is well priced and fits perfectly with the setting.nnWe are a family of 5 and the room suited as well, comprising of a double bed and triple bunks which were a hit with our 3 children aged 10, 6 and 3. The room itself was clean, well-equipped and themed like a pirate ship which continued the fun after the day in park, making it a special treat for the kids. The microwave, sink and mini fridge is very convenient, making meal prep for our toddler easy.nnThe explorers retreat hotel has a bar/restaurant which was welcomed after a day in the park and they also provided entertainment for the kids in the evening. The food was better than expected for the price but the full English breakfast in the morning was a bit bland.nnThe whole experience made a surpise weekend away feel like a memorable holiday. The friendly staff and inviting location would certainly make us return, despite the 3 hour drive.
We stayed in the Gully Tour Bus. It’s a travelling double decker bus converted into a room you can stay in! I would wholly recommend it for your stay, especially if you have little ones that are vehicle obsessed. Only issue is headroom, which is about 5ft 5in. Otherwise it’s a really comfortable, and quirky night in a bus!nnThe hotel is fairly standard, with friendly reception staff and great food and entertainment for the kids in the evening. There’s also a playground right next to the rooms.nnOverall, I’d definitely recommend you to stay here if you wanted an overnight stop at Gulliver’s. It’s no 5 star resort, but neither is the theme park, and if you have kids 3-10 they will love it.
Explorers retreat is a nice relaxing stay, I give rooms a 3 star as I booked promenade room which is small for 3-4ppl we upgraded to pirate room which is 100% better - if I was to review pirate room then 4.5*nThe reception staff Oliver was fantastic and very helpful along with ladies the following day.nFood in restaurant wasn't much to shout about.nIf I would come again then I would get the pirate/wizard rooms as these are much better
The location and the place is amazing. However... Please avoid restaurant. We waited 30min to someone to take our order. After another 30min we have been told that there is backlog in the kitchen and they lost our drink. So we are still waiting for our food.
We stayed in the pirate room... kids loved it. Adults not so much. We got there on a rainy day. The room temperature felt more like Frozen rather than pirates, basically, there is only 1 radiator for the whole place and it was off. It took around 5h to reach a comfortable temperature. There is no heater in the bathroom or the kids' area. The location, is a bit far from the centre of the village which means you need to use the car for everything. Staff are friendly. The down bit is that check-in is at 4pm and check-out at 10am. If you want a late check-out it's an additional £30.
