Second time in this hotel in the elegant small town of Buxton. After 2 visits, this is my review.nnPositives:n- the hotel is new and really nicen- the rooms are stunningn- the staff is friendly, although not always as professional and knowledgeable as the personnel of a 5 stars hotel should ben- SPA facilities are good, not excellent but definitely good. For instance, it is strange not to have at least a water hose in the steam bath to clear the bench and keep the space well humid. Moreover, the only thing that is offered is some water. However, it is standard for high-level thermal facilities to also provide other things complementary infusions, dry fruit etc....nnNegatives:n- the quality of dinners is good but uneven. I took the same dish twice and one night was very well presented, the other looked like my office canteen. This is strange and not what I'd expect from a top hoteln- the breakfast is substandard. Little choice, things not promptly refilled, staff uncoordinated. In my first stay it was impossible to receive some mixed toasts after asking 3 times. Now a toaster has been added for the guest to use probably I am not the only one to have had the same problem, but the overall level of the breakfast is not 5-stars.nnIn conclusion, excellent structure but not really 5-stars. Next time I will not dine in the hotel, there are plenty of pretty places in Buxton.
We had a lovely stay at the hotel. Breakfast is very good and dinner in the restaurant is gradually improving, although it still hasn’t reached the “fine dining” category. The Attic room, albeit small, was comfortable and the shower was excellent. The spa is also great.
Absolutely loved staying at this beautiful hotel.nIt was a real treat for my birthday. The staff were fabulous. They so obviously loved working there and were proud to show us around. The food was amazing. Our room was the best. Completely faultless.nThe Spa!!! Oh my! fabulous
The DB&B package is great for a short stay. Rooms are lovely, spa facility excellent and dinner always good was a couple of notches up on this latest visit. BC just can't get the bar right though. The space isn't great. Over the years of visiting, we have suffered slovenly staff who can't be bothered to clear tables. This visit the bar staff were pleasant but clueless. The bar wasn't busy. We ordered a bottle of fizz which wasn't behind the bar and the staff went off to fetch it. At this point, we should have been invited to take a seat and told that the bottle would be brought over. We were left standing at the bar. Bottle arrived, asked if we wanted it in an ice bucket of course. Bucket and bottle handed over with 2 economy stems. Left to open the bottle ourselves. Please get the bar staff trained and purchase some half decent stemware.
Fabulous spa break with friends. We stayed in a lovely corner suite which was sumptuous with high ceilings. Spa was also a great experience, loved the outdoor pool. Enjoyed dinner in the restaurant as well. Staff were so helpful and friendly.
