A fantastic evenin̈g ĥeld by Mrs Bennetts regency dance goup based at St Marks Church in Surbiton. Hosted by Libby Cùrzon who called the dances with brief demonstrations for new comers to enable everyone to join in. I was dressed in my best regency fìnery and danced the night away hoping that Mr Darcy would soon arrive to sweep me off my feet. The house alas, is in need of some major restoration by its owners English Heritage to restore it to its orìginal condition. However the ceing nets to catch falling plaster and bare walls added to its charm. The house is set in magnificent landscaped gardens.
Awesome architecture & loads of history behind the Northington Grange. If you're in the area it's definitely worth the visit, we walked around the outside close to the building & then again on the grass away from the building to admire all the architectural work. Heaps of room for a picnic and room to play soccer and other games. The building is starting to deteriorate & needs some needs good upkeep & definitely a pressure washer and this place will be better than ever. Signs around the property with information about the history about the Northington Grange, who the owners where, architectures etc. The most annoying thing is the drive from the main road to the property, there are heaps of potholes along the dirt road. Not much to say on this. There was an antiques fair setting up and the organisers were reluctant to let us in even though we are EH members. We walked round the outside. It is like the poor relation of Whitley Court!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Came to the opera..... was stunning, really glad I made the drive... 100 miles. What a beautiful location Highly recommendVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
The building is a neoclassical structure surrounding an original building. The concrete is getting a bit dowdy. Not particularly interesting. Building was closed. Excellent walks in fantastic countryside. Almost felt like a micro climate with exotic and weird vegetation. Worth a visit. No Cafe.
It's located off the road, and getting here can be slightly tricky, but just follow google Maps. There is no access to the inside, and there are no toilets or other facilities. The venue appears to be used for events and weddings, so when we visited there were large tents built on the grounds. It's worth a visit if you are in the area or passing by.
It's a very large building rather in the middle of nowhere! A beautiful "nowhere" though. We disbelieved Google Maps at first and missed the entrance and ended up driving all the way along a pretty but gravelly track! Google has it right! As soon as you are off the main road turn right. Could not get in to the building but poked our nose through an open door. Looked pretty ruined inside but also some rooms looked functioning. Lots of free parking. Curious, but enjoyable place that seems to be predominately a place to host venues.
Worth a look if in the area. Down a dirt/gravel single track so 10 mph speed restriction is needed. Looks to be remnants of a festival with empty champagne bottles littered around and on a few outdoor tables. Quite a nice dystopian vibe as hardly any other visitors.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Went here as it was free place to get into is a bit difficult to get into along tracks with a lot of pot holes That said it's the location you visit as the Grange is not open but is surrounded by beautiful views so a ideal place for a picnic and bird watching Also a good place to visit on foot
Fab, small venue around 500, I think to watch an opera. If the weather's good too, you can enjoy your own picnic on the lawns.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
