Ruin of an old Roman Fort. Parking for around ten cars which should be ample. But I think the residents use it as a car park, so it's actually very hard to get a parking space. Very nice and well kept ruins, showing under floor heating and the like. No amenities / free to enter any time.
There's not a great deal to see, but if you are interested in history as I am, then it's fascinating. Built around 200AD as a shore fort, this place wasn't excavated until the 1950's. The site is mainly flat grass but there is a bit of a slope on three sides of the excavation itself which could make it a little difficult for wheelchairs but access is not too bad for wheelchairs at the far end. There are information boards dotted about showing what it would have looked like. Artifacts found during excavation can be seen at the Tide and Time museum in Great Yarmouth. There's parking in a large lay-by just at the entrance. Dogs are welcome on a leash. Well worth a visit if you have half an hour to spare.
A lovely little stop off, to learn some history. The Romans ideas were brilliant. Small parking lane can be used. It is free to walk around.
Needed better sign posting as missed turn off to park. Could have some sort of car park off road and perhaps a basic flat hard surface pathway for wheelchairs/ mobility scooters so disabled people like my wife are able to better view the ruins. Information boards were fairly informative and I took some good photos of the foundations and walls that were left.
Not a huge site, but neat and tidy, with numerous well maintained information boards. This fort was constructed in around 200AD and remained in use for a couple of centuries. The vast majority of the site now has modern housing on it, but at least this section was saved. Managed by English Heritage, it's free to enter.
It's quite a small walk. 5 minutes but there's information boards. Very interesting read. And to think your so close to history. Those who get to look out theyre window into it every day are very lucky.
It's a ruin, open and accessible to anyone able enough to walk and free to visit. There is a handy lay by for parking. Interesting information plaques dotted around. If you are into old Roman remains it's great. If you are not its still of interest but not a major attraction but still worth a quick visit if you are nearby.
I am fascinated with Roman history so it was lovely to come across this small but interesting Roman fort it is a free English Heritage site very well maintained with some interesting information boards and well worth a visit if you are in the area .
Glad it was free, nice to see what's left, would be nice to excavate more.
It was good, free and outdoors. There is not really much there but as we were walking past it was not a big deal to pop in and look closer.
