Probably the best roast I’ve had in London. Positives of this place are the great atmosphere, classic interior, amazing beer and cocktails and large and classic roast dinners. The negatives were that the food is a LOT and that it was quite cold, but those are small negatives to a great experience.
Positives: * Buzzy and friendly pub right near Victoria Park. * Sunday Roasts were tasty and had good portions. * The staff were friendly and attentive. Not so positive: * One thing that gave us a bit of an ick was this: we were asked by the wait staff whether we wanted Yorkshire pudding with our mains which, of course, we said a collective “Yes” ‘cause, who wouldn’t? Perhaps my friend and I didn’t read the fine print on the menu, but to our surprise, for a main that cost around £19+ each the Yorkshire pudding was charged as an extra! We found that very odd; either make it clear that it’s going to cost extra or include it as part of the veggies/sides that come sitting with the roasts like most venues.
Had a wonderful birthday meal with friends here. The tempura vegetables were lovely for starters, the duck breast main was amazing, as was the puds - I tried too many to remember them all, but loved the rhubarb crumble. The staff were attentive and even treated me to a birthday beer. I can't wait to visit again. Knocking a star off as the gents was a bit below par.
We visited on a Sunday afternoon without reservation. After 20min we managed to get a sit. The waiter was super friendly and accommodating! We ordered: - pork belly2x - Beef roast - Bloody Mary - rhubarb crumble - beetroot salad Above expectations! All freshly made and super tasty. A perfect place to experience a traditional Sunday roast!
Dog friendly Originally recommended from a friend. Walked in on Sunday looking for a table of 4. Considering the location just outside Victoria park hopes were low but we incredibly got ourself a table. The manager at the door was very welcoming and accomodating. Bloody Mary is served with freshly grated horseradish, SO yummy! Both pork belly and beef roast were delicious. Staff was really friendly. Rhubarb crumble was incredible! A perfect Sunday, thank you
Fiancé and I both got the Sunday roast beef, a bit pricey but it was soooo delicious! Definitely the best Sunday roast I’ve had so far. The only thing is some pieces of the meat were too chewy, but the parts that were good, were so good. Lovely aesthetic, very traditional pub. It’s been packed both times we went, which is always a good sign.
One of my favourite places for a vegetarian Sunday roast around have also had amazing food in the week here too. Lovely dining area, always a delicious menu, really professional, friendly service. Great location, right in the heart of Victoria Park Village, near Victoria Park - great for a stroll post food. In my experience, it’s always really busy, so recommend to book a table.
Nice food, mid range prices. Toilets lovely. Beer selection large but not much to my taste.
Came for a roast and there were lots of highlights: roast was solid, the brownie was incredible, staff were friendly and attentive and the vibe and location are great. Reasons it’s not a 5/5 for me include: the roast veggies had 2 types of cabbage and I love cabbage and we felt it would be better with some parsnips or something else. The white chocolate ice cream with the brownie is fine, nothing special. And the loos were a bit untidy with sticky floors. Totally worth a visit still. You will need to book as they are popular
Gets better every time! The food has been high quality for some time, but the service goes from strength to strength. Most notable the thoughtfulness of the maitre’d to offer to bring out our young kids’ meals quickly before the adults had even ordered. Pork, pollock and beets starter all delicious. Cheerful, airy space. Enjoy! Bonus point for well kept Five Points best bitter on cask
