Must see if you love the Beatles. There was a very nice groundskeeper who explained where all the important historic spots are. Lovely man. Made my visit perfect
Nice stop on the Beatles tour of Liverpool. I highly recommend that you utilize a guide because you will have more ‘behind the scenes’ stories about the Beatles than going it alone. The church yard is nice and the Eleanor Rigby grave is well kept. Just across the street is the place where John Lennon first played with Paul McCartney in the church before they were The Beatles.
One for the more serious Beatles fan, Sir Paul has commented himself saying that although he can't specifically remember seeing the gravestone, there can be no doubt his subconscious had stored this information away to be resurrected much later in a Beatles classic. I've purposefully uploaded an image of the grave in relation to the church to make it easy to locate. Just turn left as you walk in...
Quiet and respectful. Nothing crazy, in fact, you have to know where it is to get to the marker. No signs or other touristy things which is nice - since it actually is a final resting place.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
This is a must see if you’re a Beatles fan. To find the tombstone, you should enter the front/road gate to the church, turn left to the graves. The grave can be found on the right in the third row facing the street. The first row being the closest to the street. The grave is covered with little green stones which also make it easy to spot. Be aware that Eleanor is just one of the smaller names on the headstone and not carved in big letters. Be respectful when there. It is a cemetery after all.
If you are a big Beatles fan this is one of your stops on the Liverpool tour guided or independent. To easily find the tombstone follow this. As you enter the gate to the church premises turn left to graves on your left. The grave can be found on the 3rd row facing the street 1st being tge closest to the street. The grave's ground surface is covered with little green stones which also make it easy to spot. Note that Eleanor is just another name there and not carved in big letters. Be respectful when there. It is a cemetery.

Ah, look at all the lonely people Ah, look at all the lonely people Eleanor Rigby Picks up the rice in the church where a wedding has been Lives in a dream Waits at the window Wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door Who is it for? All the lonely people Where do they all come from? All the lonely people Where do they all belong? Father McKenzie Writing the words of a sermon that no one will hear No one comes near Look at him working Darning his socks in the night when there's nobody there What does he care? All the lonely people Where do they all come from? All the lonely people Where do they all belong? Ah, look at all the lonely people Ah, look at all the lonely people Eleanor Rigby Died in the church and was buried along with her name Nobody came Father McKenzie Wiping the dirt from his hands as he walks from the grave No one was saved All the lonely people ah, look at all the lonely people Where do they all come from? All the lonely people ah, look at all the lonely people Where do they all belong?
A must see for Beatles fans! There is not a lot to see or do unless of course you are going to a church service or visiting a gravesite - please remember to be respectful at all times! That said, if you are a Beatles fan it's worth a visit. It's hard not to keep singing Eleanor Rigby for the rest of the day!
Per tour guide / Sir Paul, complete coincidence that an Eleanor Rigby was buried here. However, Art Peter's church, and the hall across the road from it, are important to the history of the Beatles. The church's fete is where John Lennon and Paul McCartney met.
