Had a lovely stroll round, there are maps that show various walks that take anything from 30 mins to 2 hours. A castle half way round gave the kids something to discuss about who may have lived there in the past and how big it was originally. Great kept grounds and a couple of bridges that we played Pooh sticks on there are also a couple of play areas for the kids to play in, absolutely exhausted by the end of the day after spending over 4 hours here. Oh there is also a cafe here that does some snacks and drinks, we did take a picnic with us, but did stop off for a drink! Great place for a day out.
Tbh wasn’t really impressed, there’s much better country parks throughout ayrshire. Appears to not be kept well with monuments over grown and fly tipping/dumping throughout, not just general litter but a fridge and plastic crates. Only plus point really was the castle remains. Potential to be better with some care and attention from the council and the people that use it.
Fab place to have a walk, very dog friendly and my dogs had so much fun as there is so much space for them to run around! Lovely bridges, river and a castle to look at- very picturesque whatever the season.
Lovely place to walk the dogs. Plenty of room for a good game of fetch, and a nice circular walk. Bit of rubbish here and there around the ruins, but nothing excessive.
Great Park with something for all the family Play park forest walks , old ruins , frog pond if you know where to look. Enjoy. Playground: 2 playgrounds. 1 for tots and big one for the big ones.
Nice Park. Suitable for jogging running and bikes. Lots to see. Worth a visit.
The house was abandoned when the family ran out of money building the harbour at Ardrossan. The house was unroofed in 1925 to be used for target practice, was blown up in the 1950s, and the shell of the house was partly demolished in 1973. All that survives is a single corner tower and some low walls. The family are now represented by the Montgomerie Earls of Eglinton and Winton, and they now live near Cargill in Perthshire. There is information about the Montgomerys in the visitor centre. There is a story of an underground tunnel leading away from the castle. There are also  tales that the ruins of the castle are haunted Worth a visit lovely walks free parking, with nice little cafe.
Absolutely gorgeous country park! The grounds are huge and there is plenty of walking to be done. There are 3 different trails that can be easily walked or cycled around, all passing through the key features of the park. The bridges, the ruins, the playpark and more. Its a very picturesque place full of nature. We had a great family day out. A visit to the cafe for some cold drink and ice lollies where definitely on the cards too! They also serve a host of breakfast items, lunch, snack foods and all those yummy cakes and sweet treats we all like to enjoy now and then. There are public toilets open during visiting hours too. Parking is free and plenty of spaces.
Invest in sign! We were limited on time and wanted to do the red loop. My god it was awful to even get started to find the red path from the visitor centre. You should have a sign red here purple here and yellow here. It is not that hard. Plus staff at visitor center saw that we were confused and no one asked us and they were right beside us. Anyway found the beginning and that was fine, park is actually quite nice but long behold there was no sign again, from the map we assume we were on right track but no... We had made our way to purple as the right turn was not posted. We turned around and venture on a non posted turn and yes red was back 20m down the junction by a bridge. That's grand but maybe put the sign at the turn. Not by the bridge which you can't see from road. We attempted that but there was many path again and no signage. As mentioned we were tight on times so we decided to just retreat and go back the way we came in but was a waste. A park loop circuit should be the easiest thing to follow. Never struggled this bad and we do many park and also proper hike.... Ridiculous frankly. Put sign for beginning point and at each possible turn !
A beautiful place to walk around, so peaceful. The ruins are spectacular.
