Another lovely little Abbey to explore. My son and I love visiting these places, whatever the weather we always have fun. Lovely drive to get to it and a small car park right on-site
Nice little place to visit, on main route from A66 to Barnard Castle so easy to find, you can see it several minutes in advance from either direction - just turn off at the traffic lights by the narrow bridge. Free parking & entry, well-kept site. I'd say allow 30-60 minutes for a look round. Would have been nice to have a bit more info on-site about the history of the place, but worth a visit if you're passing.
Atmospheric ruins in a very peaceful setting. Informative boards telling the abbey's history. A real sense of tranquility when walking around, yet it's only 10 minutes away from Barnard Castle Free to enter, and a good look round took about 40 minutes. Dog friendly, and a small amount of on-site parking available. If you're heading on to Barnard Castle also well worth seeing, take a moment to stop in the layby on the hill after crossing the small bridge, you'll see a good view of the abbey. I visited Egglestone the day after seeing Riveaulx Abbey - not on the same scale, but it still didn't disappoint, which I think is high praise!
Got very very lucky with this hidden gem! Took a diversion recommended by Google Maps and the scenic route took us straight here! If you focus you can actually feel the ambience this place would have had.
Interesting ruins, spoilt by parents and children using the site as a playground and climbing all over the walls. It would have been a lovely visit without them. So much is still standing. Lovely situation above the river
Another place in Bannard castle town I like, it still wonderful look when you drive pass. Free for look around and river beside.
