The building became an official local history museum in the early 1980s with the intention of housing existing collections brought in from elsewhere. Today, Kirkleatham Museum is a popular attraction for the Redcar and Cleveland region, particularly since the installation of the famous Saxon Princess exhibition, featuring rare Anglo-Saxon artefacts unearthed from the Cleveland region in 2007. Access to the museum is free with free parking facilities. Eating facilities are available at Sophellies café in the pavilion building just opposite the main museum. Closed Mondays except Bank Holidays Open Good Friday Summer Opening: 25 March 2016 – 30 September 2016 10.00 - 17.00 Winter: 01 October 2016 – 14 April 2017 10.00 - 16.00 The museum has three floors and are accessible for wheelchair users.
