Wells Community Hospital Trust was formed in August 2006 after local people fought a successful campaign to have the hospital re-opened. It had been closed two years earlier by the NHS. The hospital, which is on the famous Holkham Estate, was originally opened in 1910 by the Earl of Leicester to “supply all the health needs of the local community.” The Mermaid Dialysis Centre was opened by Norman Lamb (MP) in July 2011, providing holiday dialysis for patients away from base.
