About:
About The Drury House is Windsor's oldest established restaurant, having been trading for over 100 years; we have gained a worldwide reputation for high quality home cooked food. Story The Drury house was built in the reign of King Charles I, in 1645. It was built originally to house the staff from Windsor Castle, until it became part of the abode of Nell Gwyn, Charles II's favourite Mistress; to accommodate their secret liaisons, a tunnel was built between the Drury House and the Castle, enabling Nell Gwyn to have a secret rendezvous with the King at a moments notice. The tunnel is still in existence to this day, though for security reasons has been partially blocked off. A century later the house was divided up to create separate houses for the employees of the castle. It then became a utility house, housing coffins, suits of armour and supplies for the castle. It thereafter became a residential town house in the late 18 century. The Drury House specialise in Homemade Pastries, Puddings, Pies and Flans as well as traditional Roasts, such as Beef, Lamb, Pork and Turkey. We also serve Homemade Gateaux, Cream Teas and High Tea. Visitors to the Drury House are fascinated to find the original mouldings, fireplace and wood panelling still intact which gives it the unique distinction of being the only restaurant in Windsor to have such a wealth of architectural detail still in existence and on display.
