"Thornthwaite Gallery is a hidden gem set in a beautiful stone bank barn on the edge of Whinlatter Forest. Opened in 1972 to celebrate the talents of Cumbrian artists, the gallery is adorned with oil paintings, watercolours, pastels, photography, tapestry, needle-felting, wood sculptures, pottery, handmade jewellery, glasswork and more. We have a small car park and we are perfectly situated for walkers and cyclists; the coffee is good, the food hits the spot and you are sure of a warm welcomeThe vegetarian tea room is a perfect place to enjoy the stunning artwork or taking in the views of Skiddaw.
