About Because I Like It is a cafe and bistro, gift shop and gallery in the centre of the beautiful Peak District town of Bakewell, Derbyshire. Story Specialising in gluten-free meals and cakes and introducing a range of dairy-free and vegan cakes, we try to offer something you cannot get elsewhere in Bakewell. Likewise, not only do we have art from respected local and UK artists, but we have a range of Asian art from Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia and Malaysia, buying direct from the artists to givr them a fair price and to keep these stunning pieces affordable for our customers. Our gift shop sells almost exclusively hand-made crafts from the UK and also some fair trade lines from overseas. We believe that there should be a balance between helping our fellow countrymen and helping the people we have met overseas, many of whom live well below the breadline. We have introduced tapas from Thursday to Sunday, which, if popular, we will extend throughout the week. This is again filling a gap in the market in Bakewell and we hope it will appeal to our local regulars as well as our guests from further afield.
