Great taste - but very small amount of food My friends treated me to a birthday dinner at Eastern Spice It’s a place I’ve been to many times when I lived in Cleckheaton. It used to be a busy thriving place - and you had to book in advance My friend joked when we arrived as she’d booked a table but we were the only ones dining The server was pleasant When the food arrived it was smaller than a starter portion I had chicken and spinach masala 4 small pieces of chicken : Dave had chicken masala and Elaine had chicken korma Coffee and water Not sure how much the bill was as I didn’t pay but the menu showed masala at £7:40 The chips seen on the photo we’re served with the korma. The plate the chips are on was the size of a side plate. The curries came in metal bowls that were approx 5 inches in diameter and an inch deep and only half filled When we had finished Elaine went home to cook some tea as we were all very hungry - the serving size didn’t hit the spot ! We arrived at 5:45 and left at 8:15 and were the only diners !! So different from the bustling days from years ago. Maybe it’s empty as the food servings are not value for money ?
We came here on the 23rd of January 2023. I will start off with the positive elements to this restaurant. The first thing is that the starters are fantastic value for money and full of amazing flavour. I got the mixed starter and I must say I was very very impressed at the amount that you got for your money. I would say it’s definitely well worth getting the starters as they were first class. The staff were extremely friendly, kind helpful and polite and were really helpful and welcoming. Now on to the negatives. Sadly the curries lacked any herbs or spices. It was quite bland indeed. Also there was not much meat in the dishes at all. The meat that you did get where very tiny little cubes of meat which is really really disappointing. The curries definitely need to be revamped, but not only that you need to get much bigger portions for your money. If I hadn’t of got rice with mine, I would’ve been extremely disappointed Because you needed this as the amount of source was far too much. The other negative is sadly you cannot hear what the people who are serving you are saying, and it is very hard to hold a conversation in this restaurant because they have an extremely loud extractor fan, so when your food came, there was a lot of confusion as to what they were saying to you and a couple of times we had to swap dishes around because we thought we didn’t have the right ones. Having said that I have given this restaurant the best rating I could Because I think the main causes did let it down a lot, like I say there is a lot of sources and very little meat indeed. Also I would say the dips that you’ve got with your Poppadoms was very watery indeed.
Shocking shocking shocking. Walked in on a Tuesday evening and there were a few tables but not many. No smile from the waiter, sat us down and had us waiting 10-15mins and not one person asked if we wanted a drink. Nobody had their food and we just walked out. Walked passed 2 waiters and they ignored us as we left. IF YOU DON’T LIKE YOUR JOB, DON’T WORK THERE. You won’t die cracking a smile you know.
The service was just unwelcoming as my other half commented upon a moment ago.. The food was a 3/5 and it was just about okay, like an average rating, but the smile-less service and lack of any engagement was just disappointing.. The food could have been better, but we've had worse elsewhere and it wasn't too bad all in all, out of courtesy we still left a small tip.. I wouldn't go back, but all the same would wish the Eastern Spice the best of luck.. with a tweak here or there it could be an amazing place :.. 2.5/5
Always amazing food and service, my favourite restaurant by farFood: 5/5
It's a fine balancing act in terms of portion sizes, and these guys probably have it right. They're not huge but there's more than enough food! The food itself is okay. The curry has a distinctive taste and consistency to other curry houses, well, everywhere! That said it's good food. And consistent: I've been visiting here in varying states of sobriety for over 27 years since my late teens, and if anything the quality, atmosphere, and place itself, and my cognitive function, has improved! One thing to watch, parking is VERY limited.
Had a takeaway and each dish was superb. Absolutely outstanding authentic food. Absolutely would recommendFood: 5/5
If you want a fantastic curry this is the place to go. Chapatti's are amazing as is the Chichen Tikka Rogan Josh. Excellent Value for Money.
Really lovely food, not oily at all, well cooked and full of flavour. Naan bread was excellent, as was the aloo gobi and the Vegetable Karahi was outstanding. Good sized portions my subjective view only and good service. Bring your own alcohol there's an off licence 200m away on the same side of the road. Only slight annoyance on the night I visited was the noise from the kitchen/behind the scenes - it sounded like an industrial vacuum cleaner was being used! Would I return? Absolutely, highly recommended.
Absolutely beautiful food here, my favourite is their karahi gosht best curries in Bradford in my opinion x
