Stayed in the hotel after finding a great deal on Groupon. Had a 2 night stay as a break away with food and a bottle of wine on the first night and breakfasts each day. The food is lovely, good choice and the rooms are spacious and clean. Ours had a jacuzzi bath which was nice to relax in. Would recommend a stay.

Nice tidy hotel. Hard working and friendly staff. Didn't appreciate being referred to in paperwork as 'Mr and Mrs Groupon....' Afternoon tea very nice. Evening meal lacking a little. Overall though a good but dated hotel.

We bought the £79 deal for a 2 night B&B stay including evening meal and a bottle of wine on the first night. As it was so cheap we weren't expecting much, which was a blessing. We aren't the type of guests to do a classic 'four in a bed' and start inspecting the room with white gloves and throwing mattresses over. We take everything on face value. Room 10 was a spacious family room with a tiny TV which I did read complaints about prior to the stay, but this wasn't an issue as we don't go away to watch TV. However the surfaces and lights were covered in dust, the shower didn't have much power and there weren't any plug sockets for my hairdryer/straighteners apart from near the kettle tray and TV which made it a squash to get ready. The so called 'fine dining' evening meal consisted of a tasteless slab of fried frozen fish (which I doubt would have passed 'Birds Eyes' quality control), on top of a few greasy chips with nuked microwaved mushy peas. If this is fine dining the chip shop round the corner should consider themselves Michelin star chefs because at least they cook fresh fish in homemade batter! Left the food and most of the vinegar, sorry I mean 'wine'. Next day we went down to breakfast. If you enjoy a school canteen type of service this is the place for you. Had a luke warm coffee and didn't even entertain the queue for the 'buffet style' breakfast served in stainless steel catering tins. Walked out with no questions asked as to why we didn't touch any food. Strange attitude even though the dining room staff on both evening and breakfast shifts are at the most 17years old with no clue of customer etiquette. Presumably the younger the staff the cheaper the overheads. Having mulled it over I decided to complain about the cleanliness of room 10 because even a cheap deal at a 'manor house hotel' should at least be dirt free. The girls on reception were lovely and immediately moved us to room 36. Again found numerous problems of dust etc. Couldn't face complaining again. It was a relief to leave. The management's photos do not portray a realistic image of the place but my photos do! The corridors are dirty, rooms much to be desired and the food.... Words fail me for a supposed 'award winning wedding venue'.

Converted victorian mansion, only 23 rooms. Very friendly staff, excellent food, very relaxing surroundings, rooms were very spacious and clean. Lovely local walks in the nearby parks and woods.
