Dunstaffnage Castle and Chapel
"Last entry 3.30pm.We recommend booking online in advance to guarantee entry. From the rugged battlements of this strategically sited castle you can see how it once dominated Loch Etive. Outside the ramparts lie a ruined chapel, well-kept grounds and pebbly beaches with views to Mull, Lismore and Morvern. Built by Duncan MacDougall in the 1200s, the castle was captured by Robert the Bruce in 1308. Flora MacDonald was imprisoned here after helping Bonnie Prince Charlie escape Scotland."

As we travelled to Oban we thought we would have a walk around this Scottish castle. Free parking So we walked up to the castle and it was a nice gentle walk which could be done if you were in a wheelchair. As we got close we realised it had a shop and with it being early January I didn't expect it to be open. The gentleman inside was very friendly and helpful The shop was well stocked and we bought some refreshments The castle is well maintained and presented I've shared a host of photos for you to enjoy I couldn't resist playing with the bricks as it reminded me of when I was a child with coloured wooden bricks. Open all the year around It's a absolute must to visit Great location 5 stars from me
I enjoyed this castle which is mostly intact. Its relatively small but you get a good feel for what it was like back in time. You can walk a portion of the wall and the main cabin has multiple floors with a spiral staircase. The grounds are lush and beautiful.
A bit of a discovery from a beautiful hike starting from Garavan Sands. The castle and chapel is in a bit of a ruin but the historical context well described and understood. The weather was fantastic and made the visit extra pleasant.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Fantastic ruins however still has some areas with rooms and fabulous gardens. There is an old Chapel there with some old graves. Fantastic Loch for swimming or picnics away and has free parking.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Dunstaffnage Castle was a brilliant vist my wife and walked along from Odan Town center and it was well worth it. The cost was low and the staff are great very knowledgeable and if you get the chance do the guided tour. History mixed with wonderful people and even better views. If your in the area its a must
Beautiful ruin near Oban. Didn't get in this time. There's also a chapel close by which is interesting too. Price is 7 pound for the castle. There's a tiny souvenir shop next to the castle.
Great castle but exposed to the extremes, so even though it was warm in Oban, it was freezing here. Still, I highly recommend a visit to this icon. Just rug up.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
If you like castles, this is a must visit. Lots to see and explore inside and out, with beautiful views over the water to the mountains.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Overall good experience with good activities for the kids including an activity sheet. Limited access for disabilities and also very limited toilet facilities.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
It was nice to visit and explore around for a short tour. One sign is dissolved, but I wasn't really into reading a lot of history anyway. I liked the big chimney in the kitchen.
