Went back here recently after visiting as a child. Very happy memories with my father who recently passed here and I just had to see it again. Very impressive castle. Not just ruins but a proper Scottish castle on a hill. Love it. Walk up to it can be a bit steep if you’re disabled but worth it. Nice coffee shop at the bottom and free parking. Worth the visit
Castle is closed for renovations just now. The walk around is amazing. There’s a gift shop with coffee and tea available. Not a standalone destination but can be clubbed with a visit to Troon or Irvine.
This is a good, sign posted tourist attraction. There's a sweet little cafe at the base of the castle with lovely staff, a children's play park to keep your littles entertained and the castle itself has some very informative signage. The only thing I struggled with was he massive, steep hill you have to climb to get up to the castle Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
We had very welcome drinks before and after our walk, and the most delicious chocolate cake ever! It's a pretty place with great views of the castle and a nice gift shop too. The staff were so friendly and efficient. Thank you for two lovely visits!
A lovely old castle, with panoramic views. It was locked at our latest visit, but enjoyed the sunshine and views. Apparently, it is one of three castles that Scottish kings would stay at during the year. The scaffolding on the castle has been there for a long time and is considered an eyesore.
Great value tour. Our guide John was very knowledgeable. Inside the castle, the roof is an incredible feat of engineering. What a hidden gem. Well worth a visit.Visited onWeekdayReservation recommendedNot sure
Had a really interesting tour inside the castle and loads of detail about both the inside and grounds of the keep. The tour took an hour but could have carried on. The tour guide was very knowledgeable. Had a lovely lunch at the tearoom afterwards.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Great castle, tour was very interesting and staff are helpful. Well worth a visit.
A fabulous hidden gem. As members of Historic Scotland our entry was free. We had the place to ourselves with our wonderful guide and both us adults and kids aged 8 and 11 found it gorgeous and fascinating. A fab wee lunch in the lovely café in the visitor centre, basic menu but very fresh and tasty, and a good spot for a sit down with small gift shop and a little museum. We also went for a walk around the woodland which was great. A huge well done to those looking after the site and working here. Great people and a great place to spend an hour or more.
The whole experience was totally brilliant. The tour guide was exceptional good, very friendly, very clear and very knowledgeable. The cafe was small but had everything you might want and with very friendly staff. The museum was small but very helpful to give an overview.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
