I went to Dunbar Dental clinic with toothache. I had not been to the dentist for a long time and wasn't looking forward to the visit. Reading the two poor reviews here made me feel even more apprehensive. Actually it was all fine. I was treated well, from the moment I entered the building. The receptionist was polite and welcoming and the dentist was constantly checking I was comfortable and in no pain. Couldn't really fault the service I received.

Very poor staff behaviour I had in this clinic the worse experience with a dentist ever: he cleaned my teeth without using any prophylactic paste on his probe, which was scratching my teeth and made my gum bleed... That was done just before the anaesthetics could work, therefore probably with intention to hurt. Why do I believe it was done on purpose? Because only part of the teeth were done before he left the room for letting the anaesthetics work. Then he came back, put a filling, THEN clean the teeth again, this time all of them and with prophylactic paste. At this stage, this bully of a dentist even shouted at his assistant as if it was her fault. Surely he should have known better: he was the professional dentist after all. And all that without a word nor even looking at me at any time. There was no justification for it either: I came on time and was very polite as usual. At the end I still had to pay for his work in spite of the fact that I largely contributed to NHS for more than 20 years by my taxes... When you go to practitioner and let your health in his hands, you want him to be good, professional and caring. You do not want him to be trouble minded, under stress or else, because at the end it is your health that is at stake!

Worst Dental experience of my life. All I can say is, I’ve never had such a bad experience by a medical professional in my life. I’ve unfortunately had more than one bad experience at this practice by the same man. I used to get a different person but he’s unfortunately left so now no other option. I’m writing this to warn people. I’m now planning leaving this practice. I once made a cry in discomfort during a procedure and was told “what do you expect?!” Absolutely shocked me. Never have I expected agony! I know it can be uncomfortable but it was so rushed and unprofessional. He then immediately left to see to another patient as they cram 2 patients into every appointment so the dentist jumps between you and another person next door who’s probably going through the same rushed job. The actual tooth extraction was in my opinion a disaster as my roots were broken off in my jaw and required further extraction. I’m not a dental professional but I know what’s acceptable and this can’t be the norm but apparently this is quite normal here as this happens a lot speaking to friends and family that have had the same issues. I have had wisdom teeth removed (private) at another practice due to fear of going to Dunbar and it was relaxing and pain free and I felt the dentist is trying his best to keep pain and discomfort to a minimum. With Dunbar You feel rushed and all they want to do is extract and get you out ready for the next one. Almost as if because it’s NHS you don’t deserve to have a good service. If anyone else feels like they have been mistreated during their procedure please comment as I don’t believe I’m the only one as a family member had another bad experience that led to infection that made her really ill and was then given penicillin despite her records stating she was allergic and she she even told them again at the time but they said it would be ok! I won’t go into the details but it caused a really bad reaction in her face like I’ve never seen before. When she called to say what had happened was told by the receptionist to go see her GP as this was no longer a their problem. 4 days of messing about with appointments after being told to go back to Dunbar finally got her on the correct anti-biotics. Like the previous review I’ve payed national insurance all my working life and always used NHS dental practices when necessary until now. I’ve never had such poor service before. Also worth mentioning is one particular receptionist with Brown hair and glasses that is always rude and downrite obnoxious at times. Of course this is a personal experience and opinion and maybe this Dentist is over worked, trying to keep on top of too many patients and it’s affecting the care and attention required or maybe I just caught everyone on a bad day but this has happened too many times now to ignore!
