Brilliant little museum with a wide and varied selection of exhibits. Son loved the dinosaur section and the sacred stones were impressive too. Unfortunately the camera obscura was shut but understandable. Worth a visit

So well maintained, visited first time recently since leaving school over 45 yrs ago. Very interesting and so well laid out. There is also a lovely gift shop. The camera obscurer is an added attraction. Set above Dumfries, but walkable distance from town centre. Well worth visited.
A fine example of a good local museum with a fascinating collection of objects from prehistory to the present day. It boasts the oldest camera obscura in Britain affording I'm sure lovely views over the town's rooftops alas not open until after the Corvid19 crisis abates.

Really good, staff was great and helpful, lots to see great place, worth a visit no charge but be helpful and put some money in the box.
Really enjoyed our visit to the museum, especially the Camera Obscura
