Great place with interesting history. Fantastic views from the top of Dumbarton Rock. Reasonable entry price and very friendly staff. Very good for kids who like exploring.

I was absolutely floored by Dumbarton Castle. You can't help but be blown away as you approach the enormous volcanic rock on which it lies. Aside from being a hugely impressive structure on an equally impressive natural rock formation, it has a fascinating history as one of the most important buildings of the old kingdom of Strathclyde. Let your imagination run away with you and go back in time to the hustle and bustle of the thousands of people that will have been within the castles walls over the centuries.

Dumbarton Castle is on top of a massive rock that allows to see it from really far distance. The visit is worthy mainly due to the nice views of the river Clyde specially in a sunny day. The castle has a free path up to the hill where visitor can enjoy of incredible views of the river as well. In front of the castle, there is a siting/eating area for having a break. For hiking fans, there area a couple of circular routes to enjoy with family, friends and kids. 100% recommended.

Always good for a visit. Good walk up to top to get heart rate up. Worth it for views from the top. Unfortunately snow and wind closed the top this week. Friendly staff.
