This is a fantastic castle to explore. It has a very unique layout, lots of stairs, and amazing views. The gentlemen we purchased the castle tickets from was so friendly and helpful. Lovely castle to visit!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Amazing Castle with cracking views from the top. Well worth a visit if your in the area. Only down side is there's alot of stairs, alot more than we anticipated. We were breathing quite heavily by the time we reached the highest point. I wouldn't say this one is wheelchair or pram friendly unfortunately. But if your feeling fit and healthy then you won't be disappointed .
Lovely place for a visit although it was restricted at the time of our visit due to high winds which meant we could not go up to the main part. The gentleman in the shop was very informative and gave us a good run down on the place through its history. We will be back to see it in full. This is not a place for people with mobility concerns and definitely not wheelchair friendly due to the steps.
Beautiful rock with amazing history. The view from the top overlooking dumbarton and the clyde. Expect a few steep stairs but once you manage that, you will be greeted with one of the most scenic views.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Beautiful day to step into the foot of history! Be prepped to climb the steps, it's the only way to get all the way up and around the castle and down. Nice and welcoming staff. Toilets onsite. No cafe onsite so bring your own bottle of water and even coffee perhaps to keep you hydrated all the way through your physical activity while exploring a piece of history!
It was a beautiful sight. The views from different spots across the hills were great. A lot of stairs to climb but that was not a put off. I would recommend a visit if you fancy great view up the hill along with historic feel the place offers, it is a yes.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
We visited on a Sunday, as part of the Historic Sundays. So we booked some weeks before and was free entry. The parking is free, but tends to get busy so might take a while to find a parking spot. The castle is located over river Clyde, beautiful location. Overlooks the entire town. You have to explore each level by climbing up the stairs and enjoy the view at each level. Its all labeled in the maps inside the castle. We took approximately 1.5 hrs to climb up to the top level including stops for pictures and just spending some time at each spot. The climb isn't that difficult but won't say its quite easy too. Lots of history around tha castle, very well described and labeled by the castle administration. They have a gift shop, benches in castle gardens.
Outstanding view from the top. Currently Inside of the castle there’s nothing like really in castle stuff but the French prison and more than thousand years ago memories will heal your heart. A history of how this castle was built and was it really a castle first or something else! Some unbelievable truth. View is really mind blowing. Just be careful a bit slippery though. Parking area available also you’ve to buy tickets for the tour.
Amazing setting with stunning views but with over 600 steps this castle is not for the faint hearted!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
