Duke Of York
"We've recently put a lot of effort into bringing the Duke of York back to its roots as a classic pub restaurant: you'll find good old furniture, wooden floorboards, lots of prints, old photographs, rugs and books, and two open fires. We've softened the outside areas of the pub with lawns and flower beds, and our lovely secluded gardens are a real suntrap."

Went for a drink and stayed for dinner! We visited on a Saturday around 4:30pm and sat outside on the patio. The patio is covered and had heaters and blankets which were very welcome. We liked the look of the menu so ordered food. We did have to wait almost an hour for the food to arrive. The food was really tasty, good size portions and the service staff were lovely. Would definitely go again. The menu changes everyday, the day we were there we found plenty of choice to suit our family. Wonderful atmosphere, clean, lovely finishing touches, friendly staff.
Great food, great customer service and to top it off they are very dog friendly. I’ve been here a few times and the food is always great and they have a very cosy interior. I’ve always sat indoors and they sometimes give doggy treats to our dog which is a very sweet gesture. The pub can be busy so you should book tables in advance.
Boxing Day lunch surpassed every expectation we had. We went as a “family” of 6 and were given the perfect table. The service was exceptional and staff made us feel so welcome. Lunch was delicious. Portions were generous and all the chosen dishes were devoured! A huge thank you to the waiting staff, chefs and all those behind the scenes. Like many, many others, we will revisit and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
We dropped in as a last minute decision after googling pubs to eat at in the area and it was excellent! They were very busy as we expected for a Friday night but were happy to accommodate us and we will definitely be back! The onion rings were the best my partner has ever had, alongside the burger which was so tasty and my venison pie was delicious and hearty. Definitely recommend!
Lovely Sunday roast and great service. It's busy, so you need to book on Sunday. Despite being busy it feels relaxed and nobody rushed you. Kids menu too. Large portions. Only slight criticism is lack of variety of veg. It come with roasties, carrots and cabbage. But you can order cauli cheese on the side. Desserts were nice, but a bit disappointed with the waffle, which was a bit stodgy. I would recommend this for a family Sunday lunch.
Warm, welcoming and good service. We went as a group of four and all had a Sunday roast which I thought were a bit pricey. However the quality of the food was great. Well worth the price tag.
Sunday lunch with family. Good space - more restaurant than trad pub in my humble opinion. Easy to hear people and atmosphere fine. Massive Yorkshire a plus - beef meant to be pink which I would have preferred was a bit over pink but tasted ok. If you don't like gravy or prefer not to be swimming in it - make sure you ask for it on the side! I didn't but ho hum. I can see why people come back from reading the comments but I won't rush myself.
Had a fantastic family lunch for my Dad's 80th. From booking an area for a large group through to settling up, I was treated well by all the staff. A special thank you to the young waitress who looked after the party fantastically. Great food, all served together, everyone had a fab time.
A lovely place to have a drink with gorgeous surroundings and decor It's cosy, especially during the winter when the fire is ablaze. The large garden is very well kept and is open all year. The food is mediocre and not consistent, which is why the rating is 4.
I love this place usually but as we had a dog so we sat in the bar area and ordered food at the bar, not a problem, very dog friendly. The food was lovely but although the bar staff were very friendly he was not very knowledgeable about the menu and slow at taking food orders, going back and forth to the kitchen for each question and making drinks before putting through the order. Otherwise highly recommend
