Dudley Zoo is a fantastic place for a family day out! The variety of animals is impressive, and the enclosures are well-kept. The zoo's layout makes it easy to explore, and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. We especially enjoyed the zoo's historic castle and beautiful gardens. Highly recommend for animal lovers and families!Visited onWeekendWait time1 hr+Reservation recommendedNo
Great Zoo, lots of animals to see and you can see them really close up, lions enclosure could do with upgrading to provide more viewing capability. There is lots of space to walk around and it is very hilly. however if your not very fit or just want to relax they do provide a little car train to the top that runs every 20 mins or so, there is also a chair lift available weather permitting.
Had a lovely day out here for my partner's birthday. There was loads of parking, however it was a 5 minute walk or something from where we parked. Inside the zoo there were loads of different things to see. Lots of birds and monkeys especially as well as all your usual zoo animals. As it was her birthday, we paid for a Tapir tickling experience which included the entry fee. We got to go into the enclosure with a member of staff then pet and fed both tapirs. They were really chill and docile. They didn't throw their weight around or run around at all, it felt really safe. They both loved the attention, being able to be petted and scratched basically anywhere letting out little noises and drooling in bliss. The staff member said they only get people doing the experience maybe once a fortnight so if you can afford it definitely go and give them some attention! There's very few animals you can waltz into their enclosure and sit next while to petting and taking selfies like we could with these two. All the staff were very happy from what we could tell and most were happy to have a chat. The lady who did our experience seemed very passionate and knowledgeable. Would love to visit again.
A great zoo with plenty of animals & ones different to other zoos I have been too. Easy to get around & see everything. The castle ruins sit atop the hill looking down on the zoo. Also a museum exhibit detailing history of the castle. Enjoyed using the chairlifts down the hillside.Visited onWeekdayReservation recommendedNot sure
Excellent zoo experience, everything was in easy walking distance. The compounds seemed to be appropriate sizes for the animals they contained. The historical castle ruins provide an excellent setting. One warning about this review: Dudley is my home town although I live in the home counties now, so I may be displaying unconscious bias.Visited onWeekdayWait time10–30 minReservation recommendedYes
As an inner city park, it's not huge. It's still quite big and it is set within the castle ruins grounds, so there's a lot of sloped walkways. It doesn't disappoint though, loads of interesting exhibits and a few food outlets. Walk around slowly and go back if you don't see any animals the first time, they are usually seen a bit later in the day. Castle is good, there's a great exhibition in the lower room and it is very informative. It ends up at the bats enclosure.
Visiting Dudley Zoo was such an incredible experience! From the moment I walked through the gates, I could feel the unique charm of the place. The zoo is nestled around the historic Dudley Castle, which makes the whole experience feel like a journey through time and nature. The castle adds such a magical backdrop to the entire visit. One of the highlights for me was the diversity of animals. From tigers to lemurs, and even the adorable red pandas, I was amazed by how many different species they house. The enclosures were well-designed to mimic natural habitats, and I could see that the animals were well cared for, which made the visit even more enjoyable. The zoo also offers fantastic opportunities to get close to the animals, with interactive feeding times and informative talks by the staff, who were incredibly knowledgeable and passionate. Another thing I loved was the layout. Dudley Zoo is set on a hill, so you get to explore different levels as you walk around. The views from the top, especially near the castle, are stunning, giving you a panoramic glimpse of the surrounding areas. It’s a great place to take photos, too! I also have to mention how family-friendly the zoo is. There are plenty of areas for kids to run around, and the educational elements are weaved in so naturally that it makes learning about the animals fun and engaging for all ages. The cafe served good food at reasonable prices, and the gift shop had a nice selection of souvenirs. Overall, Dudley Zoo is a fantastic day out, whether you’re with family, friends, or on your own. It offers a perfect blend of wildlife, history, and breathtaking scenery. I’ll definitely be coming back!
My visit to the zoo and castle was fun! Loads of animals to see and we're quite funny too! A great place to walk around forgetting your legs getting tired. If you don't fancy walking you can catch a road train around the zoo. My favourite ride was the skylift. Visited onWeekdayWait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedYes
The castle is great and steeped in so much history. The grounds are great and well maintained. The zoo is a very big let down however. So many animals not around or empty places. Haven't been for 20 years and probably won't ever go back again. It was once a great place a very long time ago and it hasn't got that magic back. Also in this day and age I'm shocked the zoo isn't a smoke free place. Especially with so many kids around. Let down by a poor zoo so many better zoo's to visit.
Easy to navigate, parking was easy. Wide variety of animals and the enclosures looked decent. You can walk with the lemurs and get real close and also animals experiences are available to buy. Food and toilet experiences available, can easily spend a full day here with how much there is to see and plenty of benches to rest on your day. Lovely experience and glad I got to see the giraffes. Also lovely gift shop selection at the end so come prepared
