Duart castle was a fantastic stop on our journey. There were areas inside the castle faithfully recreated to look the way they did in the early days including bathrooms, bedrooms, banquet rooms etc. One of the great things about the castle is the views to the Scottish mainland and Loch Linnhe, really, on a nice day the views are unrivalled. Another great aspect of this castle unlike others is your ability to take photographs of the interior spaces. Some others prohibit photography bit here you are free to take as many as you like. The entry was around £10 for an adult with parking on site along with toilets and a lovely little tea room. Well worth visiting.
You can take the ferry over to the island and visit this castle that is still lived in. The home of the McLeans and if you have the same last name you can sign the special guest book. We were lucky enough to meet the current head of household there who was on site that day. It is a cool tour to take and you get to learn about the history of the area and the castle. They have even filmed movies here I think one with Sean Connery.
The island of Mull is beautiful, and the castle is right there on the coast with beautiful views all around. Very much worth the visit. If you are nearby book a ferry ride with CalMac and come over.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Castle very well cared for, interesting interior exhibits. Able to go up onto roof/rampart for amazing views of the loch and the big mountains, w/ Ben Nevis, etc. Single track roads made for long travel times on the island itself, so just be prepared for that.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
As an Ulster Scot and a McLean I may seem biased but to be honest this is a fantastic fortified castle that I could have spent 2 days exploring. Steeped in history as is the MacLean family itself it's a credit to the current chief that it's it the condition it is. Thanks to Flora McCloud for the excellent information and the tip to email ahead to my wife's Ross clan castle, we got in there too.
Always a lovely visit to Duart. Really friendly staff, fabulous cakes and a great castle to look round. Outstanding views.Visited onWeekdayWait time1 hr+Reservation recommendedNo
Great place to visit when touring Mull, better check opening times first though. You can walk around the grounds even when the castle is closed which is nice. Visit if you can and remember to leave a donation if you visit out of hours.
We had a lovely day trip to Duart Castle. It has some incredible views from the roof top. My child had fun exploring through the bracken and rock pools below the castle too. The tearoom was closed so just check times and the website before you go.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Fabulous place not too expensive to enter, fully of history all well documented. Really enjoyed our visit.
Very interesting historical location that is worth a visit and the low entry fee. The rooms are well explained and guides are on hand to answer questions. Then follow up with a visit to the tea room and enjoy a light lunch or afternoon tea.
