Did a West End of Glasgow walking tour with Stuart and Hamish from Dreghorn Photography. This entailed visiting several locations/buildings all with different photographic challenges with Stuart explaining different techniques to capture the best image. He also gives you a historic background on the building you are visiting which is also very interesting. This is my third or fourth tour with Stuart and all have been an excellent experience.
I attended the 4 hour fundamentals of photography course at the weekend and absolutely loved it! The course content was perfect for beginners looking to learn more about their camera and gain confidence in moving out of the preset and auto modes. The delivery was excellent, you could tell Stuart is highly knowledgeable and has a great passion for what he does. The whole session was very engaging and very interactive. I will definitely be booking myself onto further courses in the future. Well recommended.
I attended Stuart's 4 week course 2 hours per class for an introduction to photography. I was completely new to using my SLR and the classed gave me both information to understand the camera and practical experience as to what it is able to do. There were only 8 students in the class which allowed everyone to get hands-on support and their questions answered. Stuart is generous with his knowledge and really kept things at a level that was comfortable for beginners. In other words he didn't get too technical unless we pressed him. The classes are very well structured. it's amazing how much you can learn in 2 hours when you have a good teacher who knows his subject inside out. If you get the opportunity to learn with him I recommend you take it. In addition to discovering the potential of my Cannon, I would say that one of the most important things I learnt was how important it is to experiment and play with the camera rather than to strive for the perfect shot. To sum up: Overall all I have nothing but good things to say about Stuart and his classes. I will be going back for more.
I went on the half day walking course and had a brilliant day. I have only recently got my DSLR and the course has really helped me to understand my cameras different functions and settings and how to use them to take amazing pictures. I would definitely recommend the course to everyone, Stuart was very friendly and extremely helpful on the day answering all questions and taking time with each of us to make sure we understood what he was teaching us. I will be booking myself in for one of the night courses very soon and cannot wait to learn more!
Stuart is extremely knowledgeable. The 4 hour intro course was packed with information. The class number was small so Stuart could give individual advice based on particular camera or preferences. Stuart managed to fit a lot into the 4 hours all of which I've found invaluable in helping me better understand my camera. In addition he provided very clear, well illustrated notes and offered to keep in touch and answer any follow up questions. Highly recommended.
I just completed the 4 hour introduction to digital photography. As relative beginner I have played around with the manual settings with a varying degree of success, I found the course was pitched at the correct level and moved at the correct pace with a good mix of theory and practical activities. We went through the camera set-up which highlighted a few features and settings I hadn't quite understood when trawling through the manual myself. We also spent time looking at shutter, aperture and ISO settings which I found very useful and the practical activities really helped me to understand the impact of altering them. I found Stuart very knowledgeable, was able to help everyone with their camera settings regardless of the make and model, and was happy to answer any questions, showing genuine interest in passing on his knowledge and helping us improve. I would definitely recommend attending this course as a starting point and I will certainly be looking to Dreghorn Photography for more advice and guidance as I continue with my new hobby. Thanks Stuart.
I really enjoyed the 4 hour photography introduction class. The pace and depth of learning was ideal - and through each of the sections, there was value and practical help. Stuart is a good tutor, and I appreciated the way in which he was able to illustrate and demonstrate DSLR camera features, as well as general photographic tips and information that he shared. I strongly recommend this class for those wanting to explore the potential of their camera!
Stuart at Dreghorn Photography has been a great help to myself learning how to get the best use out of my dslr in terms that i understand. I have done a day class with him where he had a variety of people at different levels all with a wide variety of camera & i feel he was more than capable to help us all get the best out of our cameras in a nice simple manner. I then took part in a 4 day course which expanded my knowledge more but where i feel i have benefited most was in his one to one tuition where i can get the knowledge that suits me & my needs which does seem to be never ending! Stuart puts you at ease with the camera & its functions, for me the best part is explaining it in lay mans terms, not trying to baffle me with terminology that i don't understand, i think in such a specialist field is a rarity. Could not recommend him highly enough!
I wanted to learn more about night/city photography. Did 4 hour night walking tour - great locations and covered not, just what was happening there & then- but relating it to other situations. It was not a 'this is how you do it' session.... more what do you want from this shot and how do you achieve it - allowing for each individual's input and a more rounded learning. I felt at ease, nothing was rushed and if you didn't 'get it' first time round, Stuart was happy to go over it again. A very good confidence building session with a great instructor. Thanks Stuart !!!
I have recently completed the 4 week Introduction to Photoshop and 4 week Introduction to Photography courses at Dreghorn Photography Studio. Both of these were superb and took me much further than I would have thought possible in 4 weeks. I had never used Photoshop before, having been put off by the first look of the interface. I can now edit out flaws in my photos using a well considered workflow. I have been photographing for many years but have only rarely got myself off Intelligent Auto mode and not really known what I was doing. Now I can use P, S and A modes and produce more creative and informed photographs. Stuart is a very knowledgeable, adaptable and patient tutor. Each two hour session gives plenty of material and space to practise while homework assignments provide opportunity to put new found skills to use between classes. The classes are small in number which means there is time for response to individual needs. Once I have honed my skills in both areas I will be back for more. Thanks Stuart!
