Just had fish and chips and wife had a kids fish and chips. Both were big portions and hot. Nice staff. And the food was excellent. Really really nice.
Genuinely impressed. It takes a great deal to impress me when it comes to Fish n Chips, but the fish butty I had from here from crisp, light and tasty.
After a 12 hr shift we decided to treat our selves to a chippy tea . Ordered fish and chips ×2 , a cake , a scallop and 2 curry sauce . Was charged over the odds but I thought maybe price increase . While wrapping my order I noticed a fish on its own I said I didn't order that and the young man said he put that through and I had paid for it . Rather than mess about getting a refund on my card I said I would take it , then as my order was finished I asked about my 2 curry sauces to be told they wasn't on my order so had to pay for them separately, then when we arrived home I only had 1 curry sauce even though I had paid for 2 . So my partner had to make sime gravy . My partners cake wasn't a cake just potato no fish inside . A very expensive tea that turned out rubbish . Will not be rushing back . Its run by young children that are not listening to the customers
Brilliant, popped in here after a swimming session and had a lovely tea. Staff lovely, food great and the service was quick. Thank you.... oh! by the way, best chips round here.Food: 5/5
The staff are very friendly and greet you with a smile however the food itself is average, it used to be one of my favourite places however the last few weeks the food has been greasy and full of oil to an extent that its left me feeling unwell after forcing it down. If they spend a little more time to drain the oil off the food and put a little more care into what they send out then this place could be one of the best around once again.
Ordered through just eat a couple of days ago. The food quality is shocking. The fish were scrappy, thin and looked like they were cooked in mucky oil. Not the type of chunky fresh fish i get from where i normally go it was closed . The food didn't seem fresh at all, the batter was thin and missing on parts of the fish which also had that over fishy taste and smell. Horrid.
Really good fish and chips, really fat chips, and the batter on the fish is nice and crunchy, not soft and soggy
Disgusting, greasy, the chips were green in places and scabby, the spam fritters were soaked in oil. I certainly wouldn't be going back.
Come on, what the heck?? Paid nearly 18 quid last night for two soggy small portions of fish and chips.... The lass at the counter didn't care one bit.. I didn't get her name, she was a bigger woman. she wrapped up my order before I could see if she put salt, vinegar and scraps on it like I asked, so I TRIPPLE checked she did it. So after we got our food and tripple checked she sorted the salt and vinegar with scraps, we went up to our usual eating spot on the Moors, opened up my sog tray to find NO SCRAPS, NO SALT, NO VINEGAR!!!!. i was more annoyed at the fact I TRIPPLE checked with the lass !!!! She obviously couldn't be bothered unwrapping my food and sorting it out so she just said yes to me when really she knew straight away she didn't do it... Won't be back here again, standards have dropped so much and I lived at five lane ends for fifteen years. The chips were small scrappy chips and I wish they would let you put your own salt and vinegar on your food. Fair enough about COVID but that's a thing of the past now. People can argue otherwise but restrictions are not about any more and the COVID laws have vanished...
Since Drakes, Highfield Road, Idle, started accepting online orders the quality and service has been negatively affected. The fish are over cooked and the chips are drowning in grease and almost inedible. While in the shop you are also waiting a long time even if the queue is very small due to the volume of online orders. I'm really surprised that there isn't more negative feedback. If you visit the shop at off peak times the standards improve. Let's hope they realise this and pay more attention to detail.
