Good quality produce. Friendly staff. Could not find food anywhere at 3/3.30 pm! Enjoyed the food and the place was decorated too! Taking off the 1 star for the price. Just thought it was a tiny bit expensive. It's dog friendly too! Didn't stay there so can't rate the rooms. Enjoyed the experience :Hotel highlightsQuiet, Kid-friendly
Nice place with great food and friendly staff. It’s an old building with loads of character but that means it’s not perfect - my room had a tiny bathroom with a low sloping ceiling over a corner bath and no stand up shower. No problem for younger and smaller folks maybe, but for me, it was bit of a challenge. The access to the car park is not for the feint of heart too. However, overall it’s a great place to stay in a quaint little town in a lovely part of the world. So as long as you’re able to live with the quirks of an historic building, it’s very much recommended
Not what is used to be. Over the years we have both stayed and eaten in the Dragon many times. But sadly things have declined. On arrival in the bar the member of staff was pouring drinks, we stood for some minutes before being acknowledged by her in a slightly off-hand manner, not a great start. The younger members of staff were on the whole much friendlier. We had booked a table of 6 for Sunday lunch - they offer a choice of either welsh beef or welsh lamb. The lamb and beef were excellent, but service was almost non-existent, and it took ages for food to arrive and when it did there was a long wait for all of us to be served 6 people. They had also run out of IPA, we had to chase to get another drinks order, we then ordered several bottles of wine and eventually had to get them ourselves as by this time we were almost finishing our main courses. Lasagna was stodgy a lot of pasta and not of lot of sauce and a lot of grated cheese on top. The food and food choices were definitely not as good as in previous years.
Ate here on a Saturday with some family members, 3 of us were gluten free including a vegetarian. Staff were very knowledgeable regarding allergies and the menu was marked with allergens. Our gf vegetarian guest was limited on choice as they had received the incorrect vegetarian burgers, that week, and the ones they had were covered in breadcrumbs kudos to the chef for checking. I ordered the special, pork chop with mustard mash, sesame green beans and cider gravy. Unfortunately, the mustard mash was so overpowering, that I was unable to finish it. I did comment to the waitress and she said she'd inform the chef. Overall, very nice food, decent portions and attentive staff.
Beautiful pub, restaurant and hotel. The rooms are clean and tidy and nicely decorated. I stayed in a single room and was pleasantly surprised at the large bed, plentiful storage space and spacious bathroom. The hotel was very quiet at night and there was plenty of car parking. I would love to go back in better weather and sit in their wonderful beer garden. Breakfast is included in the price of the rooms and is very tasty with good quality ingredients. There's a nice selection of fruit, yoghurts, cereals and croissants and the menu for cooked food includes a hearty traditional Welsh breakfast as well as a vegetarian option and lighter dishes such as poached eggs on toast. I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful and the check in/out process was quick and easy. The location is absolutely perfect for a visit to the beautiful town of Crickhowell, situated on the high street, just steps away from all the wonderful independent stores such as family run butchers, bookshops, the very elegant Nicholls, other drinking and food establishments to keep you occupied and just moments from gorgeous hills, rivers, breathtaking views. I can't recommend it enough.
When looking for somewhere to stay or eat, I’d suggest choosing somewhere else. This hotels owners are not fit for the hospitality trade. They are rude, arrogant and speak to people as if they have wiped them off their shoes. I wouldn’t mind at all if the place was a 5 star establishment, the rooms are dated, the toilets could have done with a good clean and their breakfast is most certainly not a Full Welsh. The sausages taste like they’ve come from Iceland Shop not country and the beans could have been used to paste my wallpaper.
My family visited Christmas Eve lunch time, table sticky, room chilly no atmosphere, as its Christmas one would like candles in the holders but told they were being charged up. Staff not particularly full of feative cheer, food average service poor!
Very very nice meals right in the heart of Crickhowell. Delicious food, lovely atmosphere, helpful and friendly staff. Highly recommended.Service: 5/5
