I had a wonderful time with my daughter in The Manor House. Gail was our lovely guide today. She told us a lot about the building's history, people who lived there, their everyday life and beliefs. It's a living museum so you can touch almost everything, put the historical clothes on and sit at the tables. The garden is gorgeous. You can enjoy flower beds roses!, green grass to sit, there's also the adventure path for smaller kids. A small cafe and toilets are available on the site. All the staff are kind and lovely afaik, it's run by volunteers. Tickets cost a few quid and are valid for 12 months! This place is a true local gem.
Absolutely fabulous! We came for our first visit here today with my elderly grandad and my children, the staff really were lovely and helpful and full on interesting and sometimes funny facts. The activities available there were fun for the children, little hunts all around the grounds, a little maze , and lots of interesting facts and things to find in the house. Spent a good couple of hours here, as well as a reasonably priced cafe which sold some lovely food and little toys and books. Would definitely recommend! Fun for all the family.

What a great evening! It was a special event for a local society but was throughly enjoyable. Excellent cake, great tea, and coffee. We had a lecture first about the house and family, then a tour. We were given lanterns to light our way. Our guide was brilliant, so much information. A great evening!!!!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes

1620s House and Garden at Donington le Heath have a tour guide going around inside the house and it has a garden. But don't be confused with it started in 1620, it is much older than 1600. The tour guide will tell you how it gets the name. You need to buy a ticket online and it has a car park and a cafe.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
What a great find. Been meaning to visit here for ages and finally did and it did not disappoint. The house is really interesting and the tour from Gail was great. The highlights being the history and meaning of lots of everyday phrases like 'sleep tight' and 'straight laced' and some more risque turns of phrase. Very engaging and insightful. The gardens are beautiful and the labels adorning the trees and plants detailed interesting stories and information, rather than boring and technical horticultural facts. Lovely outdoor and indoor areas in the cafe which was serving homemade soup, cobs and cake at reasonable prices. Plus your ticket price gives you entry for the next 12 months. Can't wait to visit again.
Really interesting history and well maintained gardens that were larger than expected. Is quite a small site, but we still ended up spending upwards of 3 hours there. Tour led by Pat G was brilliant and much recommended. She was extremely knowledgeable and told us numerous interesting stories and historical facts about the house. She also drew our attention to various incredible objects. Overall, this made the visit feel personal and greatly enhanced our experience by really bringing the history to life. Tearoom served great food at a fair price too with homemade cakes and soup being the highlights. Really enjoyable afternoon spent here and it is most definitely a hidden gem, especially considering it's only £6 for an adult. All staff are very friendly and clearly want to be there. Bonus the tickets automatically converted to annual passes. Thoroughly recommend.
Had a great time with such friendly staff and small but lovely garden. You’ve got to try the cakes which are home made. Really nice
We visited today with my dad and family. Dad is very poorly and in a wheelchair and the amazing people working there went above and beyond to help. Nothing was too much effort. The accessibility and services there are brilliant and they even have a virtual tour for upstairs so that he didn’t miss a thing. Every single person and all the cafe staff made sure we got to enjoy this beautiful place thoroughly. Although the cafe was due to close, they kept it open so he could enjoy his delicious home made cake and a cup of tea. The outside benches have an elongated edge so that wheelchair users can sit with their family and not over reach to get drinks and snacks. The pathways meant that we could enjoy the garden thoroughly too. The lute player came down from upstairs and said that had he been made aware there was a wheelchair user, he would have come down to play to him personally so he didn’t miss out. He was heard though from the open window. There’s a lot for all ages to enjoy there and some activities planned each month too. In terms of value there’s no end of options depending on age groups, family sizes etc and all very reasonably priced. Plenty of free parking too. The kindness was overwhelming and Dad got to enjoy it immensely. Thank you one and all for making what could have been a challenging experience so simple and meaningful
